"Jackson! Back to your seat!" Coach's whistle screeched again and I slunk back to my seat. Annabeth wore a smug look as I sat back next to her. I ignored her leaning on me subtly and her leg slowly getting closer to mine and closed my eyes. All I could think about was Erica.
She'd looked so sick last night... So drained after the fight...
Stiles clicked his fingers. "Percy! Scott! Wake up! Come on, back to the world of the living!" He grinned and pulled up his Ipad.
Scott wiped his eyes and sat up properly, arching his back to stretch. "Uh, yeah, what's my word?" Scott yawned.
Stiles swiped on the Ipad a couple times. "Anachronism."
Scott groaned and lay his head back on the seat.
"Chronological inconsistency, something that belongs in one time period but is in another..." Annabeth whispered under her breath.
"Uh, something out of it's normal time, right?" Scott said after a while.
Stiles smiled, "Yup, now try this one. Incongruous?"
"Inappropriate, Discordant." Annabeth muttered again.
I sighed and nudged her. "This is kinda Scott's thing, he's trying to get his grades up so if you could - "
"Oh, well I was just thinking out loud. You know, thinking about how you're on a bus to a cross-country meet when you should be in New York right now, it's just kinda incongruous, don't you think?" Annabeth hissed. I pursed my lips and dug my nails into my palms. Annabeth's hard gaze softened, "Hey, I didn't - " She stopped when I ripped my hand away from hers after I realised her fingers were delicately weaving into my own. Annabeth's own hand clenched this time, "Percy. Stop. Being. So. STUBBORN!" Her voice graduating from a hiss to a low yell.
"Yeah! Intransigent means stubborn, go Annabeth!" Stiles congratulated. "You need Annabeth to tutor you Scott!" He joked.
Annabeth gave a small, fake laugh and whipped her attention back onto me, glaring at me, her grey eyes were dark and stormy. I turned away stared at the ceiling, wondering if Erica was feeling any better. I wished I could text her but she'd been in a fitful sleep when I'd left. Guilt left my stomach in knots, I'd had to leave her with Peter of all people, someone I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw him, but he was all that was left, everyone else was going to the cross-country meet. Peter promised she'd be okay, her wound wasn't too bad, but the healing would be slow, especially after Derek's death...
Glimpses of Scott standing tens of meters above Derek's broken body, Isaac pulling Scott away from the edge...
A whistles shriek brought me out of my reverie. "Two of you, back in your seats!" Coach shouted at a couple of guys. "Jared! Car sick? Again?" Coach asked a small kid of the first row of seats. "How do you even get on the bus? Just, keep your eyes on the horizon or whatever..." Coach advised and Jared only moaned in understanding. Coach's eyes scanned the bus and landed on Scott leaning against the window. "Mccall, not you too!?"
"No Coach! I'm good! Just catching up on some sleep!" Scott groaned, holding his side. Coach looked relieved and sat back down.
I turned around to talk to Scott and Stiles and noticed Scott's white shirt had small red blotches on the side. "Yo, Scott... You're bleeding again!" I pointed out. Scott groaned and tried to hide it.
"Scott, you said it would take longer to heal? It's still bleeding, still bleeding means not healing!" Stiles said, concerned for his friend.
Scott put his finger to his lips. "Shhh, he's listening..." He nodded his head towards one of the twins, Ethan I think.
