"What does it say?" Annabeth grilled.
I grumbled, begrudgingly taking out my phone after trying to subtly read the message sent to me without Annabeth seeing.
"To go to Deaton's."
Annabeth pursed her lips. "That's the vet, right?" She raised an eyebrow at me. I shoved my hands in my pockets and looked at my battered converse hitting the sidewalk as Annabeth and I walked away from the school. I gave a short nod to Annabeth.
Annabeth gave a curt 'Hmmm' before falling silent again.
"Am I not even getting an explanation? You're ripping me away from my life here, I feel I deserve a bit more than silence." I asked, glancing up at Annabeth's face, her beautiful features set in a scary visage of determination.
Annabeth ripped her Yankees hat from her side and held aloft in front of her. "I spied on you, figured it all out, non of you are very perceptive." Annabeth caught herself before giving in and berating me anyway. "Seriously Percy, how lazy have you gotten? There was a time you'd be able to tell I was in a room with the cap on, now you walk right by me!"
"I mean, tell me how you figured it out." I pushed, desperate to get some answers before Annabeth ripped me away from Beacon Hills.
Annabeth fingered the college ring on her necklace. "I knew there was something wrong with them from the start..." She started, and I shuddered at her wording. "I didn't know what they were, more importantly I didn't know why they hadn't killed you yet. I figured they were saving you for something big, gaining your trust, manipulating you into caring about the blonde girl. Because let's be honest Percy, you trust them, it's misplaced, but you do. And I was worried that maybe you'd do something stupid because they asked you to. But th - "
"They're my friends, they aren't monsters. They're good people!"
Annabeth ignored my interruption and continued to walk ahead briskly. "Then I saw those twins, the blonde dudes, I saw them transform into like this big frankenstein's hellhound thing, so naturally, I followed them to this clearing... They were just there, out in the open, not even pretending like they aren't monsters! Glowing eyes, claws, hair! The whole works!" Annabeth voice grew shriller and shriller. I thanked the fact we seemed to be in a pretty deserted part of town. "After that, I had my suspicions about your friends, then I had a 'study session' with Allison and she basically let everything out." Annabeth used her fingers to emphasize the sarcasm. "Honestly Percy, Lycaons? You had to get involved with Lycaons?"
"We tend to say werewolf..." I muttered unhelpfully.
"I don't care, you're a moron." Annabeth seethed, readjusting her backpack. "At the very least, at least you chose a monster easy to kill."
"What do you mean?"
"They're sort of in the same weird grey area we are, you can kill them with celestial bronze and normal weapons."
"And if I don't want to kill my friends?"
Annabeth sighed. "Well what about the other pack? They seem to be giving you trouble. The Alpha's, right?" Annabeth drawled. I gave her a raised eyebrow in response, hoping for her to talk more. "You don't have to interrogate me Percy, I'm gonna tell you, I'm on your side!"
I just continued to glare at the ground as we walked.
Annabeth continued. "After figuring out what the secret was, I started following Lydia and Allison, and then Stiles. He's your cousin, right? Forgive me if i say I don't want him at our wedding... Sorry, got sidetracked. I pieced together what was going on with the murders, originally I thought it was your friends killing people behind your back, but it's actually the Darach. Did I say that right?"
