16: Understanding

Lucy's POV

Sigh, of course due my 2 week absence, I have all these assessments and readings to finish. Ugh, I would blame Natsu for this but it's my fault for accepting his invitation. Why can't I be like him and just skip class so casually and not give a flying duck.

"Hello?" I hear from the other side of my door. "This is Lucy Heartfilia's room, right? Can I come in?" The voice asks. I have no idea who it may be, but I reply anyways, "Yes, the door is unlocked."

The latch to the door is activated and the door swings open, revealing a a tall girl with long scarlet hair. Her eyes are slanted and a dark brown colour. She's wearing a Fairy Tail High uniform - but it's the uniform worn by seinors. I feel like I've seen this girl, but when?

"Hello, sempai." I greet as I bow in respect.

"Hello." She responds. "Oh, sorry. I don't think I've introduced myself before. My name is Erza Scarlet. You may have seen me around Gray or Lisanna." She explains.

"Oh..." I mumble. "Are you just another bully?.." I down my head and back away a few inches.

"N-no!" She exclaims, stumbling closer to me. "I came here to ask you a favour! Please follow me, Lucy-san!" She begs, grabbing onto my arm.

I don't resist and I follow her into the elevator. "It's a friend of mine, she just needs someone who understands her." She explains as she pushes buttons leading to the 3rd floor.

"You think that I could understand her?" I ask, dumbfounded.

Erza nods her head. "Yes. Not to sound rude, but she's been feeling depressed. Natsu tells me that you've been feeling the same."

"That's correct." I mumble as we walk out of the elevator. "I think I would be able to understand. I've been through a lot of drama since I've gotten here." We walk down the hallway and stop at the second-to-last room before the end.

"This is my friend's room." She whispers, pointing at the door.

I reach my hand out to knock on the door, but suddenly my head feels heavy. I close my eyes to relieve some pain that my head is giving me, but a crystal clear vision appears in my mind.

"Lisanna is in this room." I burst out, not being able to control what I'm saying.

Erza's lips curved into a frown, "Lucy-san, please. I know you dislike her, but I feel this could fix both of you up." Her arms raise up in grab my shoulders. "Please.." She mumbles.

Before I could reply, I have already knocked on the door. The part where Erza said 'This could fix both of you up' just convinced me. I don't want anyone feeling depressed. Not even Lisanna.

"Who is it?" Lisanna's voice asks behind the door.

"It's me, Li-chan." Erza spoke up while opening the door.

"Hi, Erza and.." Lisanna's eyes widened as she saw me. "L-Lucy?!"

"Hi, Lisanna." I wave, trying to act casual.

This time Lisanna's eyebrows narrowed. "SHE is the person that's going to understand me?!" She yells across the room. "SHE'S the one causing it!"

"Listen, Li-chan!" Erza raises her voice, "You may not know it, But Lucy-san is struggling WAY more than you are. Think about others for once." She scolds, glaring violently in Lisanna's eyes.

"Honestly, Lisanna.." I mumble under my breath.

"Now if you excuse me, I'll be leaving. This talk is only meant for the two of you." Erza informs, calming down. She walks backwards and closes the door behind me.

"Lucy!" Lisanna fumes, shifting her glare to me. "You have the nerve to call yourself depressed?! You're the one living the happy life!"

"You don't understand!" I boom, glaring back at her. "No one can stay happy when the only thing your classmates do is glare and scoff at you!" I cry, buds of tears forming in my eyes.

"Your don't understand either!" Lisanna screams back, tears now falling down her cheeks. "You don't understand what it's like to see the one you love falling in love with someone else!"

My eyes widen as the rest of my expression drop, "Lisanna. Are you talking about.. Natsu?"

Her expression becomes much calmer as she nods. "Lucy.. Are you in love with Natsu?" She asks, worry present in her voice.

"No." I lie. "I can't fall in love with someone I just met." I give her a fake smile, though in the inside I'm crying so hard.

Lisanna eyes soften as a smile appears on her face. "Then.. I'm happy.." She mumbles. "It was all a misunderstanding then.."

"I'm sorry!" I suddenly say, bowing down. "I'm sorry if I'm making you feel jealous. Natsu is a great friend." I explain, putting emphasis on the word 'friend'

"I'm sorry for being mean to you, Lucy-chan." She smiles, holding out her hand for a hand shake.

I smile back at her, this time a real smile. I grasp onto her hand and she shake. A handshake of a new friendship.

"I should probably explain to you why I've been so mean.." She says politely, her smile still present. "Well, it started at that once lunch, right? Well..." She closes her eyes and her smile becomes much more calmer. "The spot where you guys were sitting is important to me. That is the spot where me and Natsu met."

My eyes widen. For some reason it feels like a piece of my heart just broke. She cares about Natsu that much, and I was too blind to see it.

"When I was 10." She went on, "the school wasn't built yet. But off that topic, I was in the same position you were. I was getting bullied. So at that exact spot I cried. I cried my heart out. I must have been so loud, because that's when Natsu noticed me. He went up to me and told me that everything was alright."

Another piece of my heart broke again. For some reason I feel like I'm not special anymore. That Natsu treats everyone like that.

"From that day on, I've loved Natsu. I'm not planning to give up on him."

"That's a heartwarming story." I reply. But I'm lying. It's a story that made my heart break twice.

"Thanks, Lucy-chan." She smiles again, "I've finally got that off my chest. I feel happy again." Lisanna runs up to be and wrap me with her arms; giving me a hug.

"No problem." I smile, hugging her back.

Even though I'm happy on the inside, I'm crying so violently on the inside.
