18: Lake with Cana

I've been so careless. I couldn't see how much Lisanna cares for Natsu. Lucy thought to herself as she walked off the bus.

And honestly.. Why do I feel so depressed? Is it because Natsu is nice to everybody? I'm just another one of his friends? I bet he kissed Lisanna on her forehead a couple times too! Tears started dancing down her cheeks. I wish I couldn't fall in love!

Lucy walked forward to the lake in front of her, the lake where Natsu had taken her several times. The lake that calms her down, just as Natsu had told her. She put down her bag and jumped in after stripping off her sweater and shirt.

"Crap.." She muttered to herself. "I'm going to freeze again."

"Lucy? Is that you?" A familiar voice called out behind the wall of trees.

"Cana?" Lucy asked. The figure nodded and stepped out of the shadows. Her brown hair was tied up into a bun, she was wearing a buisness attire complemented by glasses. "What's up with the buisness get up?" Lucy chuckled.

Cana sighed, "I had a job interview today. Turns out the boss is a real jerk. So I ACCIDENTALLY slapped him in the face." She explained as she took off her glasses and undid her hair.

Lucy starts laughing hysterically, "Cana, of course you'd do that."

"Look, he said that a highschool student can't work at a bar!" She she sobs as she jumped into the water.

"Well of course a highschool student isn't supposed to work at a bar!" Lucy booms.

"What the hell?!?!" Cana suddenly screams. "It's so cold in here, Lu-chan!" I cried, struggling to get out of the water.

Lucy sighed, grabbing onto Cana's arm before she could leave, "This is my calming spot. Cana, can I tell you what I need to get of my chest?" Lucy begged.

Cana's freaking-out- expression became much calmer, her eyes looking more understanding. "Okay, Lu-chan." She rest her elbows on the edge of the shore.

"Ok.." Lucy begins. "So, I actually met Natsu way before this. Ten years ago.. When he saved me from committing suicide."

Cana's eyes widens at Lucy's last statement. "Y-you tried?" Cana whimpered, her voice faltering.

Lucy nods her head. "Yes.. He grabbed my arm before I could fall in. And he said to me these exact words, 'We're still young, we have lots of things to live for. The past may be painful, but we're going to have a good future, I promise you.' And I fell in love with those words. That quote really got me through so many problems. So many fears. We met the next day, and he..." Lucy was stopped in her track of words, He left me.. She thought to herself as tears became flowing down her cheeks.

"Lucy?!" Cana yells in worry as she swims over to The crying Lucy. "What's wrong?! What did that flame brain do?!" Cana frowned as she shook Lucy back and forth.

"He left." Lucy muttered, "He left without saying a word. I thought he would come back but by then I was taken in by a Orphanage Worker. And there I was adopted. But 10 years later my dad requested my into this school. I thought it would be a good experience. So when I got here, I met you, Juvia and Levy. The day after... I saw him again. I saw Natsu. And I knew it was him because of the way he talked to me." Lucy's tears stopped flowing and was replaced my a bright smile. "But now I don't feel like it's right to love him. Lisanna has strong feelings for him. I can't get in the way of that.."

"What happened with Lisanna and Natsu?" Cana asks as she plays with her hair.

Lucy sighed heavily, "Well, when Lisanna was 10 years old, she was bullied. She cried in the middle of the field and Natsu saw her there. He comforted her. And now Lisanna's in love with him."

Cana's eyes narrowed as both her fists and teeth clenched. "So?! Natsu saved you from commuting suicide! You have a better reason to love him! Don't let Lisanna get in the way!!"

"Cana I-" Lucy objected before Cana slapped her mouth shut.

"You have a better reason!" She yells clearly, "Lisanna loves him just because he talked to her while she was crying?! She's so stupid!!"

Lucy's expression softened while removing Cana's hand off her mouth. "I don't want to bother her with Natsu though. She loves him way more than I do. She deserves him." Lucy smiled, trying to hold back her tears.

"What are you saying.." Cana muttered.

"Well," Lucy says as she climbs up out of the lake and puts her shirt was sweater back on. "Thanks for talking with me, Cana. I really needed to get that off my chest."

"Lu-chan, don't go changing the subject! You need to tell Natsu that you love him before Lisanna does!" Cana scolds as she chases Lucy out of the lake.

"I'm not going to." Lucy booms as she glares at Cana. "Now goodbye."

"Lu-chan.." Cana whimpered as she watched Lucy walk out of the area.
