Fionna glanced down at the amulet between her nimble fingers. What could there possibly be about it that made prince gumball act as he did? Worried, stressed... Glob, it must have been something really bad...

She felt a small tap on her shoulder, and quickly looked from her fingers- to a flying boy beside her. She gave him a small hum of questioning, to which he returned with an almost... Pained expression. Pained and worried and stressed and guilty. Guilty that he had been the one to encourage the amulets in the first place; although he'd never say that out loud unless worse really truly came to worse. Manly pride.

"Lord, just on the balcony is fine!" Prince gumball shouted.

Their ride, lord monochromicorn, halted to a stop once he had reached the candy gumdrop coated balcony like he was told. Gumball was the first to jump off. He then leaned back out to hold a hand out for fionna, but his hand hit only air. Looking up, he saw her on the back of Marshall lee like a complete child. Smiling and giggling. Maybe he had been wrong. Maybe those two were... And it wasn't... Him.

He quickly cleared his head of those thoughts. Now wasn't the time. He wasn't going to live forever. Unlike...

Marshall lee's thick red shoes touched the peppermint bark that was the floor. He looked over his shoulder at fionna. Her hair hung out of her hat in the most insane way, and he laughed at her for it.

"What're you laughin' at, vamp tramp?" She unhooked her arms from his neck and instantly crossed them.

"Dude... Your hair exploded!" He laughed some more.

She looked up to the frizzy ball of blonde that sat on her forehead, and then back to him, laughing herself. "Pfffft! What about yours!"

A single hand reached up to his onyx locks, and with a few swipes, she had completely destroyed his look.

"Take this, you fwoopy haired freak!"

"And this!"

"And that!"

The two both ended up on the floor from laughing. Prince gumball sighed, a small, regretful smile on his lips. They were. He really was better for her. They were so childish, he almost didn't understand- but he did a little. Fionna's happiness was what was most important and it really seemed that she was happiest with Marshall lee. Not himself.

The prince was an understanding person. Compassionate. Caring. Maybe he had made wrong decisions in the past, but they were all for good reasons. Like this one, he thought. It could be wrong to let a child walk out on him with a literal bloodsucking half demon from hell, but it seemed that's not all he was. He too,was also a child. Lonely, frustrated, strong- but all at the same time playful, high spirited and loving, as he could probably guess. He might not be the right one for her. And their relationship might not have had good intentions. But when he looked down on his own floor in such stressful times as now, he knew if it were fionna and himself, wouldn't be having fun. With Marshall lee, of course, they were having a full out tickle fight on the balcony floor. Maybe it wasn't for the best, but fionna's happiness came first in his mind. And that's all he could really ask for. She might have been immortal now because of the amulet, and although she had yet to receive that news- he knew that Marshall lee was maybe one of the better people of her choosing. Because of course, he too, was immortal. Sure, she'd have to watch cake, the kittens, and lord monochromicorn pass- and eventually himself, but she was strong. Stronger than any woman he had ever met before. More brave. Talented.

He looked back down at the two. She had him pinned now, a huge goofy smile spread across her face. His matched. It seemed a bit cliche, but it was as if she was lost in his eyes, eventually leaning her face closer to to his own, her expression softening. Her intentions were to tickle the fluff outta him at first, but now prince gumball knew that was hogwash.

With one final glance, fionna sealed the lock and key with a small peck on his lips. Looking back up at him, she grinned and looked up at his stupid face. Prince gumball's expression softened just as fionna's had. He may not have been the one, sure. But it wasn't his decision. There was nothing he could do. And just as quickly as fionna had pulled their peck apart, Marshall lee had pulled her back down for another. And another. And another. They had forgotten gumball was even standing beside them.

It may have not been the best decision, no, but as she leaned down for a final kiss; passionate and sweet, inexperienced, subtle and still as she goes- childish, prince gumball decided that this wasn't his own thing to tamper with.

This was their love story.
