40. "The kids, they ambushed me."

"Alura, Kain, time to go!" Two seconds later, the eleven-year-old girl and twelve-year-old boy speed into the kitchen where Lena called them from.

"Ready!" they say unanimously.

"You're lucky it's the monthly full-family day," she grumbled playfully, ruffling Kain's blonde hair, making the spiky mess messier. "Otherwise-"

"No powers in the house unless it's absolutely necessary," they say in sync.

"We know, Momma," Alura says, brushing her dark hair she got from her momma out of her eyes. "You've been telling us since forever." Even if she's told them forever, they always break that rule, pretty much every day.

"Yeah, ever since you were in Momma's stomach," Kara says, coming down the stairs and looping her arm through her jacket sleeve. She stops behind her son and pulls his hair up neater. "Honestly, Kai, look like you comb your hair for once."

"Momma did it!" he whined, ducking out of her hold and to stand next to his momma with his arms crossed in protest. "Plus, I like it messy."

Lena grins down at him. "It's just gonna get messy when you're playing with Ruby later."

"Such a momma's boy," Kara playfully scoffs as she lifts the picnic basket off the counter. "Get your jackets, take this and wait in the car." Alura hugs her torso, making Kara smile and Lena scoff this time.

"Mom's special girl."

"Oh, hush, Lena," she tells her as she ushers the kids out.

The Luthor strides over to her to fix her collar and grins. "Missed a button."

"I did?" Kara questions herself as she tries to look down at herself in her yellow button up.

"No, I just wanted to mess with you." She grins more at her pout.

"How dare you."

"I dare every day if I'm living with you and those trouble makers," Lena says, wrapping her arms around her shoulders.

"Is that right, Mrs. Luthor?" Kara asks, pulling her that inch or two closer so that their fronts were touching and her arms were around her waist.

"Mm-hmm," she hums before meeting her lips halfway, grinning at her touch. "And it's Mrs. Luthor-Danvers to you."

"I love you, Mrs. Luthor-Danvers."

Lena rolls her eyes playfully. "You think saying that will make up for it."

"I know it."

"This time," she mumbles before she kisses her again. "I love you, Mrs. Danvers-Luthor." She giggles against her lips when Kara's fingers dance along the hem of her shirt but pulls back when she feels them against her skin. "Nope. We're already late. You fly, I'll drive."

"Meet you there, love." Kara pecks her cheek and then is out the house with a gust of wind, making a slight detour.

Alex sighs, dropping her head on Sam's shoulder in the middle of the kitchen. "They're late."

"They're Danvers-Luthors, what do you expect?"

"They're half and whole Kryptonians!"

"The Luthor isn't."

"There's four of them, so which one?"

"Whichever one you're talking about."

Alex sighs, burying her face in her neck. "God, help me," she moaned.

"We're a Kryptonian and human family, baby," Sam says, turning around to loosely wrap her arms around her. "It's always going to be like this."

"Yeah, I guess I signed up for this when I was fourteen, became an agent, Kara, Supergirl, eventually and finally dating Lena, handled with Reign, started to date you, Kara married Lena, and then I decided to marry you."

"What an eventful four years."

"Very." A speeding teenager came into the kitchen, hovering above the counter.

"Can we eat yet?" Ruby whined. Her shorter hair in her ponytail flopped a bit as she was upside down, the stray hairs coming loose, as well.

"Using your powers just makes you hungrier," Sam said in a sing-song voice, getting a groan from the daughter as she floated back down to sit on the counter where she caught a protein bar. "That should help."

"Speaking of which, I need to go make sure I didn't overdo the ribs." Alex kisses Sam's cheek and ruffles Ruby's hair as she makes her way out back.

"Why did we put her in charge of the food?" Ruby groaned around the bar.

"Hey, for your information," Alex said, poking her head around the backdoor, "I am actually decent at grilling."

"It's the one thing you can't burn," Sam said, laughing at her protest of sticking her tongue out.

Kara comes in from the back, flying in the kitchen, blasting Sam with wind. "Jesus Christ," she moaned. "The Kryptonians are coming."

"I got ice cream-"

"Yes!" Ruby cheered.

"-after lunch or dinner, whatever this is.'"

Sam shrugs, taking the bag from her and taking the hug, as well. "It's usually a combination of the two." The door opens down the hallway and the two other half Kryptonians come speeding in, immediately laughing while in the air, chasing Ruby.

"Take it out back!" Lena yells with Sam, the former coming in with Winn, who also had a bag in his hand.

"This never gets old," he says with a cheeky grin as the kids go outside to play in the yard.

"No, it really doesn't," Lena sighs when she gets hit with another gust of wind as Kara speeds back into her clothes.

"Oof!" That grunt from outside was followed by laughter, deep and hollow. Sam and Kara were already shaking their heads as they made their way out back to see what their kids did now.

"You guys!" J'onn just keeps laughing at Kara's protest.

"The kids, they ambushed me," he chuckles, ruffling Kai's hair. "Hey, you."

Sam rolled her eyes and pulled her own daughter off the aging Martian. "Honestly, come on, you of all the Kryptonian kids should know better."

"Hey, Papa J'onn just came back from Mars! What would you expect me to do?"

"I don't know, maybe hug Mama M'gann before him since I'm-" She stopped in laughter when Ruby sped over to hug her, lifting her off the ground. "Hey, kiddo."

"God, it's a war zone out here," Lena comments.

"They could probably smell the Mars dust," Winn mutters.

"All of you better go wash your hands before we eat soon." At the mention of food from Alex, all the kids went inside the house quickly, bickering over who got to use the sink first.

Everyone but the Martians let out a collective sigh, the said Martians chuckling. "Gotta love Sunday's," J'onn laughs.

"Yeah, who doesn't in this family?" Alex asks redundantly, kissing Sam's temple when she takes away the spare ribs and pork chops from the grill.
