It is the first day of my senior year. I watched as the morning breeze made the crisp early- autumn leaves fly. I sipped on my black coffee for a few minutes. I glanced at the clock and poured the rest of the warm liquid into a tumbler and walked out of the house and to my car. I sat down taking a deep breath and moving the trash from the passenger seat to the back. I pulled out of the driveway and made my way across town to pick up my friends Hazel and Luna.

I picked Hazel up first, her brunette hair pulled back into a pony held up by a red scrunchie matching her red flannel. The look tied together with a black and gold Gucci purse she tells everyone she bought, but we all know she found it on the malls bathroom floor. She got in the seat next to mine and hunched over, grabbing some trash from under her feet. As she held it up she said, "You're disgusting Jasmine." With that she threw it behind her never to touch again. I chuckled and we drove to Luna's house.

We waited outside for a few minutes before I started beeping the horn. Hazel and I both called and texted her with no reply. I sighed and turned off the car pulling out the keys and leaving the vehicle. I went up to her front door and slid the key in that her mom made me and went inside. I yelled out her name as I went down the hall and into her bedroom. I looked around the corner and saw her laying there, asleep.

"Luna get up what the hell!" I shouted while rocking her back and forth.
"Jesus Jaz what time is it?"
"It's 7:30 get the fuck up."
"Shit shit shit." She said stumbling out of bed.

I rolled my eyes and turned as I heard Hazel's heels down the hall. As Hazel entered she made a sour face. "Luna what the fuck! your room is trashed."

"So was I last night." She replied.
"You got drunk last night? The fuck is wrong with you?" I said.
"My life that's what's wrong, now if you both could shut the fuck up that would be greatly appreciated." She said slipping on some black leggings from her floor.

I turned to her closet and looked through the hanging clothes, picking out a purple shirt and a light jean jacket. I handed it to her and she put it on.

"Thanks but you're not my mom."
"Bet." I replied.

She put on a little mascara and grabbed her hairbrush.

"I can brush my hair in the car, lets go."

We had about 15 minutes to get to school. I really didn't want to be late on the first day. We rushed down the hall and got back into the car, we made it to the school with minutes to spare.

The halls filled with old faces, the smell of cheap perfume and vape lingered around. People rushing to their classes hoping they aren't late. Teachers wearing a smile you'll only see today because they try to make a good first impression. Kids struggling to open their lockers. All of us preparing for a boring day of talking about emergency protocols and receiving syllabi's.

Hazel, Luna, and I barely had any classes together, except for English and study hall. I didn't know what I was going to do all day. I sat through my classes and waited for 8th period to come around.

- 8th period -

My friends and I all sat next to each other in the front row of the class room. The teacher was new. It was his first year here. When everyone arrived he took attendance and then introduced himself.

"My name is Mr. Andrews."
