Everyone sat happily around a table filled with food, water and wine. They all chatted and smiled, laughed and told stories to the two little kids. Everyone was having fun, except you. You sat further away from the table, looking at the people you now call family. Even Daryl sat and listened to the stories with them. That's how different everyone was.
"You know in Italy, children have a little bit of wine!" Dale said excitedly as he poured a glass-full of red wine and handed it to Lori, going to let her son have a little. "Even in France!" Dale raised his voice as everyone laughed around him, Lori handing the glass to Carl.
You sat there, curious of what his face expression will be when he sips the wine. You smiled as you stood up, crossing your arms on your chest, walking closer to your family.
You stood next to Daryl who was sipping his beer, sitting on a desk that was close by the table. He turned his head, looking at you "mind if I join?" You asked him, no one seems to notice you. "Ya" he answers simply, before handing his beer to you.
You looked down at it, smiled and took it from his hand, taking a big gulp, before handing it back. You focused on Carl, everyone going silent waiting for Carl's reaction.
He put the tip of the glass on his lips, taking the smallest sip "eww!" He said disgusted of the taste. Everyone started laughing, Rick even, at his reaction and face expression. You chuckled, looking at the innocent eight year old boy.
"Well, stick to your soda pop young man" Shane said, making everyone laugh again "Not you Glenn!" Daryl said, grabbing everyone's attention, especially Glenn's "w-what?" He asked, confused as he smiled
"Keep drinking little man. I wanna see how red your face can be" Daryl challenges, making everyone gasp and laugh "take it easy, cowboy. He's my little man" you say as you stand up, walking close to Glenn and putting your arm around his neck. His face turns so red, you swore it was about to explode
"Look at ya, red faced when a woman slides her arm around ya?" Daryl said, before taking a few huge gulps from his new opened beer. Everyone yet again, started laughing. By now, you thought they were laughing because they were drunk, not laughing like normal human beings.
Right as you were about to make a joke, Shane cut in "so, are you gonna tell us what happened here?" The doctor looked at him, wondering why he'd ask such question at a happy time like this "Shane, we're celebrating man. You don't have to do this now" Rick said, shifting in his seat.
Your eyes were focused on Shane. If the choice was in your hands, he would've been long gone dead. "No, it was your idea man, right? Finding answers? So doctor, tell us, what happened, hmm? To the doctors? The staff? How are you the only one here?" He asked with so much rudeness. You clinched your jaw, your hand that was around Glenn's neck turned into a fist, your knuckles turning white. Your eyes turned into a darker green color, your blood boiling.
"When it all started, first day went global, a lot of men and women went out running through the doors. Wanting to be with their families. But when it got worse, a lot of people here didn't have the guts to walk out. So.. they just.. ended their lives. At the time, there were so many suicides. It was a bad time." The doctor said, looking at the ground as if the memories were replaying in his head like a loop.
"But you didn't?" Andrea asked, turning her full attention to the doctor. He finally looked up, meeting the eyes of the woman you promised to stick by her side. "I kept working. Maybe doing some good." Andrea nodded her head, before turning back to her food, looking down at the almost empty plate "dude, you're such a buzzkill man" Glenn said to Shane, before he walked away to grab his jacket that was hanging on a chair a little far away.
