Ryan's first day of college didn't go as planned -at all. He had forgoten to set his alarm the night before rezulting into him getting to class late and to top it all off a condescending speech from his mathematics proffesor accompanied by a long assignment that had to be finished in three days.
Everybody gave him the stink eye as they swarmed out of the classroom, a few bigger dudes even bumping and pushing the boy out of their way. In that moment he wanted nothing more than to crawl in a hole and never be seen again, but unfortunately he had a philosophy lecture next on the other side of the campus.
Unlike math, he actually got to philosophy a few minutes early and managed to get a good seat; somewhere about the middle row of chairs. The students filled the room in no time, making Ryan shift uncomfortably in his seat every time someone from his previous lecture would pass him by.
The last to enter the classroom was the proffesor, who didn't look much more different from the students themselves; just had a more formal air.
"Alright, class."they said clapping their hands to get everybody's attention,"My name is Proffesor Brown , I'm forty-one -ancient, I know-"they commented, recieving a few quiet giggles here and there,"and I use they/them pronouns, in case anyone will want to complain about their crazy philosophy teacher after this."they finished as chirpy as they began.
"Yes?"they asked pointing to someone in the back of the class.
"Why do you bother presenting yourself? Aren't you supposed to just call the attendance and start with the lessons?"the person asked sounding genuinely confused.
"Well, Pete, I want to get you to know eachother and myself, therefore today's class will be more of a self-introduction."they answered and chuckled when nobody said anything,"Yes, I know all of your names. I like to do kind of a background check on my students to see how to help them best."they explained looking midly amused by their student's shocked expressions.
"Then why ask us to introduce ourselves?"a student chimed in.
"I never said such thing."the proffesor said playing fake-offended,"Not everything you read is true."they explained and the class erupted in a low buzz of chatter. Ryan considered joining in, but opted out, not wanting to bother his classmates as they seemed to do just fine without his imput.
"Okay, okay, let's calm down now, class."the proffesor said motioning the class to quiet down,"Good. Now who wants to go first?"they asked. Everyone sat quietly in their seats, not daring to meet the proffesor's eyes.
They sighed,"George, do you want to go?"they asked looking at Ryan who pointed confused at himself.
"Yeah, you."they confirmed,"Oh, sorry, I suppose you don't go by George by your reaction."they said and chuckled. Ryan shook his head blushing slightly, embarassed by the situation.
"Uhh...I...umm...I actually go by Ryan."the boy clarified,"I'm nineteen and use he/him pronouns."he added mimiking the proffesor's introduction.
"Nice to meet you, Ryan."the proffesor said smiling,"I hope you'll find my course enjoyable and please tell me or any of your other professors if something is bothering you."they added looking around the classroom once again.
"So, who wants to go next?"they asked their smile never flatering once.

Ryan was walking out of the class among his peers when all of a sudden he was pulled out of the sea of students. When he turned around he noticed that the culprit of the unexpected change of scenery was the boy who questioned Professor Brown at the begging of the class.
"Hey, do you know where the cafetaria is?"the boy asked combing his fingers to his black fringe.
"Yeah?"Ryan answered confused.
"Oh, good! I didn't see you at orientation yesterday, so I thought I should check to see if you need any help."he explained.
"I'm fine."Ryan mumbeled quietly embarassed.
"Oh, I'm Pete, by the way."the boy introduced himeself again and stuck out his hand to Ryan.
The boy awkwardly shook it, cursing internally that he hadn't paid more l attention when his classmates presented themselves.
"Do you have where to sit at lunch?"Pete asked him casually, looking trough his backpack.
"Um...not really. I was thinking I could just go to the library and-"he got caught off by Pete taking a hold of his wrist.
"Oh, like hell you will. You're coming with me."he said dragging Ryan along, out of the classroom and towards the cafeteria.
At first he struggled against the boy's grip, but Pete was stubborn and didn't let go, forcing Ryan to give up as people were giving them wierd looks.
"Can you let go of my wrist now? I promise I won't run away."Ryan sighed defeated.
"Sorry, no can do. It's easy to fall into unhealthy habits, but not as easy to get out."Pete explained.
"There's more to it."Ryan said after a few moments of silence.
"What?"Pete asked confused as the two boys entered the cafetaria.
"There's more to it."Ryan repeated weaving trough the crowds of students walking the opposite direction.
"Maybe."Pete said shrugging and stopped to a table where stood two other boys and let go of Ryan's wrist,"What's up, fivehead?"he said loudly,"Hey, Patrick."he added taking a seat next to a boy wearing a fedora and glasses.
"Not your hair, that's sure."Brendon replied with a chuckle,"Oh, hey, Ryan! Take a seat."he added waving the other boy to sit next to him.
"You two know eachother?"Pete asked confused,"Ow!"he quietly whined throwing a sharp look to the boy sitting next to him.
"Yeah, Ryan is my roommate."Brendon said shrugging casually,"Are we waiting anyone else? I'm hungry."he added looking around.
"Well, Joe and Andy have English and they'll eat later. Yes, Pete, I'm sure. Andy told me so. Frank is with his boyfriend and Dallon would've showed up by now."the boy with the fedora said.
"So it's just us, then. Well, pile up!"Brendon said rummaging trough his pockets.
