Chapter 31

     Soft, shallow breaths escaped the girl's lungs in a constant pattern. Her consciousness wasn't truly there as her eyes slowly opened. She blinked a couple times, a deep breath pulled at her reflexes; her eyes squeezed shut as she let out a yawn. When they opened again, her surroundings finally came into view.
     A tuft of icy blue was all she could really see.
     "Mn.. ku-ro.." she mumbled, but for some reason her words were strained. Her throat was dry, shut off almost.
     Thankfully her shifting was enough to wake the vampire above her.
Kuro yawned, raising his head slightly. He turned towards the girl in a tired manner, but at the sight of (y/n)'s open eyes, it was as if someone had just thrown cold water on him. His eyes shot open, he shot up from his relaxed position.
(Y/n) just stared at him tiredly. Her brows furrowed in question.

The servamp nearly threw himself at her. He didn't say a word, his head just suddenly became buried against the girl's neck. The sudden pressure against (y/n)'s body made her flinch. She looked down to kuro in shock.
She could feel the servamp tremble against her figure.
"K-kuro.. i- What's-.." she still couldn't really speak. She cleared her throat once, twice, and finally managed to utter out a sentence. ".. what's happening..? What's wrong...?"
Kuro didn't answer, his grip on her tightening.
"..Kuro" she asked. His silence was killing her. "Kuro please say something.. I'm getting worried.." she pleaded.
"...I love you.." a soft whisper filled her ears. The statement seemed almost pained, despite its sentiment, it only seemed to make (y/n) more worried. What on earth was going on?
     She forced him off of her, pushing herself to sit up. His eyes held a worried expression.

     At the same time, mahiru happened to walk in carrying a blanket and some water. He stopped in his tracks at the sight of (y/n), nearly dropping everything.
     "(Y/n)! You're awake! Are you alright?!" The boy seemed in shock.
     (Y/n) was too by his sudden outburst. "No I'm not-" she replied, coughing since her voice was still too soft to yell. The eve rushed over to her with a worried look. She furrowed her brows. "I'm so confused- What the hell is going on??" She asked. "You guys are starting to scare me..."
     The sloth pair looked at her, she shifted uncomfortably. Why was everyone acting so weird? What even happened? She was so confused.
     "(Y/n)..." mahiru started. He seemed calmer now, but still concerned. "..You've been unconscious for five days."
And suddenly the room went silent.

One question was answered, but now, (y/n)'s mind was swarming with new ones. "I.. What.?" She fumbled, "What do you mean? What happened??"
"We don't know." Mahiru answered. He sat down in front of (y/n) and set aside what he was holding. "According to lily you just collapsed suddenly around the same time kuro did with me."
(Y/n) blinked a few times. "Kuro.. collapsed..?"
The vampire let out a tired hum, and then a grunt. He seemed annoyed.
Mahiru rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "A lot's happened." He sighed. "I'm not sure how to explain it.. what's the last thing you remember..?"
The girl looked down, fishing into her memories for something she'd recall. She bit onto her lip, her answer wasn't something pleasant, she remembered despair.
"I remember.. heading back from the theater.. after what happened with the greed pair.." she lied.
Mahiru nodded, looking down to kuro then back to her. "Yeah..." he sighed, "well, the day after that I got a call from licht's manager.. and it happened that lawless went missing." He explained. "Kuro and I went to help Licht look for him, and.." his eyes fell to the tired servamp. His words ceased. He swallowed bitterly.
"..I. I just didn't realize how kuro was feeling.." he admitted. Something about him seemed suddenly sad. The air grew heavy. "He has been bottling up his emotions for a while.. and when we were attacked that day. I pushed him too far.."
"Hey, suck it up, I don't wanna see any crying right now... what a pain.." kuro interjected.
The comment seemed to cheer mahiru up. Well, In a way.
"Shut up dumbass I was really worried about you!" He yelled, shoving the vampire. Kuro just groaned in response, his head buried itself into (y/n)'s lap.
The girl just watched the ordeal.
