Dance

I worked up my courage
I had been trying all night
I was going to ask
Tonight was the night
I was ready
I waited for your date to leave
I saw him dancing with another girl and knew that was my chance
He was distracted and you were alone
I took a deep breath
I walked up to you
We had been friends so this wasn't strange
We greeted each other
You smiled your bright smile
I always admired your smile
It matched your eyes well
I smiled back and began to speak slowly
I asked you dance
I thought you would at least say yes
We were friends after all
Instead you asked me to die
You didn't even give me
A single reason why
You turned your back
Your hair flipped over your shoulders
I loved your long hair
I always dreamed of running my fingers through it
I knew my dreams wouldn't come true
I left the dance
I had no point in being there anymore
That night I wrote a letter explaining what happened
I saw you at my funeral
You were crying
Begging me to come back
But he was with you
He had his arms around you
I knew you didn't want me
I don't regret what I did
I did exactly what I was asked to
I asked you to dance
You asked me to die
