Best Friend's Brother (Part Two)

Plot: Sanem and Emre are best friends but their dynamic is changed when Can makes a dramatic entrance into both of their lives (part two)

Sanem had been avoiding the Divit mansion like the plague. Every time her parents wanted her to pop by or Ms. Huma invited her over dinner, she made up some form of an excuse that prevented her attendance; sometimes she was tired, other times she was working over time at work.  All in all, Sanem thought she was avoiding Can quiet stealthily. In her head, avoiding Can meant she couldn't do anything else that would put her friendship with Emre in jeopardy.  However, avoiding Can consequently meant that she was avoiding everybody else in her life: Emre, her parents, Ms. Huma. 

Living a lie placed a strain on Sanem's daily relationships until one day, Emre had had enough. 

Even though Sanem had said she was working late, Emre had turned up at her door and forced his way into the apartment. He knew Sanem like the back of his hand and knew 'working late' had a pretense for something else. 

"Okay, I don't know what is going on with you but you have got to sort it out." Emre happily helped himself to the pint of ice cream that was left open on Sanem's coffee table. "Because I miss you and this shit is getting weirder by the day." 

"I've just been busy with work-"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah." Emre brushed her off with a wave of his hand before using the same hand to usher her over to him. "But I can see through the excuses so sort it out already so we can go back to being normal." 

And despite wanting to throttle him for knowing her so well, Sanem couldn't help but chuckle at Emre's response to her strange behaviour. 

"Move over then!" Within seconds, she went from keeping her distance from him to perching herself next to him on the couch, his arm instinctively curling around her shoulders. Here, Sanem didn't have to worry about losing her cool with Can because in her apartment, it was just her and her best friend ... doing what they usually did on a chilly winter's evening. 

But as they fell back into their routine of watching the first movie they found on television, Sanem found her mind drifting off. A small part of her felt guilty for interacting normally with Emre when she'd knowingly hid the fact that she'd made out with his previously estranged brother. The situation was all too weird and truthfully, Sanem didn't know how he was going to react if he learnt the truth. 

Would he give them his blessing if they wanted to pursue something else? Or would he accuse Sanem of unknowingly crossing a boundary that she wouldn't have crossed?

Whilst Emre laughed and engaged with the comedy on the small television screen, Sanem found herself still faced when she was supposed to be laughing. She didn't feel any tension during the drama nor did she follow the plot; her mind was too occupied with the two Divit brothers. She just sat there and aimlessly tunneled through the ice cream tub before her. 

"For real though, Sanem, what's going on with you lately?" As the movie paused for its commercial break, Emre turned his head towards his best friend, his tone possessing a hint of worry. 

"I told you, it's been work has been hectic-"

"And I told you, I can see through the excuses so, are you going to tell me what's really going on?" 

"I ... I don't know how to tell you." Sanem admitted quietly, her gaze falling to her clammy hands. 

"You can tell me anything." Emre reassured, giving her shoulders a squeeze filled with confirmation. 

"Anything?" Sanem gulped and he simply nodded in agreement. "There's a guy-"

"I knew it!" Emre adjusted his position and turned to Sanem completely, his hands clasping together in excitement. He was just like Leyla, he loved when Sanem overindulged about her love life. "Tell me everything-"
