Plot: What if Sanem got hit by that car in episode sixteen?

Can wanted to be angry, he really did, but it was hard to do when Sanem was so overtly nice. As he watched her help an old lady cross the road, Can felt his heart swell. It was an act of outright kindness that Can knew many people in his circle wouldn't extend. The way she held the lady's hand and smiled at her warmly made Can regret everything that had happened the night before.

Whilst angry, he'd told her that the Sanem he had fallen in love with wasn't there anymore, But today was a new day, and Can knew that what he had said was a lie. Because this was the Sanem he'd fallen in love with, the one that selflessly helped others, that smiled at strangers simply because she could ... the Sanem that made the world a warmer place to be in.

For a second, Can was hypnotised by the sight of her. There was no drama, no betrayal, no lying ... it was just the two of them and Can desperately wanted it to stay that way. By staring longingly into her hazel eyes, it was as if the last twenty-four hours hadn't happened. He was transported back to a few nights prior where she was cuddled into his side, a blanket draped over the both of them. She was close enough for him to smell her and her head was nestled gently against his chest. There was that same look in her eye that there had been then – one that still made Can want to swoon.

Regardless of everything, Sanem Aydin was the most beautiful person he had ever laid eyes on.

But as his surroundings began to grow into focus, Can was thrown violently back into the future. Him and Sanem were no longer in his back yard talking about their mutual love for tea – they were broken up and she'd broken him. And before Can could tear his gaze away from Sanem before he grew teary-eyed, somebody else did it for him.

Because one-minute Sanem was staring back at him and the next, her body was hurtling through the air before smacking loudly against the pavement. The scream that escaped her lips haunted Can. She'd been hit – by a car – one that hadn't even had the decency to stop.

Within nanoseconds, Can was scrambling to her side, all thoughts of Sanem's betrayal pushed to the back of his mind. No matter how emotionally distraught he was, he couldn't lose her. He couldn't envision a world without her in it because the woman, lying still on the floor, was the love of his life.

"Sanem, Sanem!" His hands trembled as he nudged her but there was no response; her eyes were closed, and her breathing was shallow. Sanem's porcelain skin was stained with dirt from the road and blood was coming from multiple points of entry on her body. The soft pink hoodie that she was wearing was drenched in red and Can felt panic surge through him. She was hurt, and she was hurt badly. "Help! Somebody help!"

People were quick to assist Can, but he ghosted through the motions. The only thing he had managed to communicate to others was that he needed to stay by her side. He hugged her body close to his own, not caring that her blood was staining his white shirt. "I can't leave her ... she can't leave me." As sirens blared around him and the archetypal red and blue flashing lights came onto the scene, Can couldn't let his gaze wonder away from Sanem. Bleeding and bruised, she was still the most precious thing he had seen.

He held her hand as they rode in the ambulance, his thumb brushing her knuckles as the sound of her scream rang eerily through his head over and over again. "It's okay, baby, you're going to get through this."

At first, Can had been confident of her survival. He had to be. He'd been to war-ridden countries and had photographed children in severe conflict and he'd done it all with a positive outlook on life. He was generally the type of guy who liked to see the good in every situation; however, as paramedics bustled about and tubes were inserted into his Sanem's body all over, Can felt his morale drop significantly.
