Plot: Sanem and Emre are best friends but their dynamic is changed when Can makes a dramatic entrance into both of their lives (part three)
Sanem was both excited and petrified to go on a date with Can.
Truthfully, there was something about him that scared her deeply. He made her feel things she'd never felt before and her world felt like it was being thrown upside down. However, she was excited because, the more cynical part of her, was strangely thrilled by the idea of sneaking around. It was exhilarating and mysterious and it made her tummy dip in a way that was unexpected.
"Can, where are we going?" Can had picked her up from her apartment, dressed impeccably like always, and was driving them towards their first date's location.
"It's a surprise." Can tried to focus on driving but he couldn't help himself from glancing side-wards at the woman who had captivated his entirety. There was a light smile on her face and she was glowing, almost like an angel, in a white dress that fell to her shins.
"Do I not get a clue?" Sanem turned her whole body towards Can and pouted softly. To outsiders, she would have seemed whiny and usually, Sanem wouldn't have moaned as such to somebody she barely knew. But it felt as if she'd known Can forever and she hadn't even second guessed herself before clutching onto his arm and shaking him with an added persistence. But despite her constant badgering, Sanem was slyly excited by the aspect of a surprise date. She was curious to know where Can was taking her. "Please!"
"Are you always this persistent?" Their car journey consisted of a lot of Sanem begging and Can admired her stubbornness. He was slowly getting to know her and he was trying to make a mental note of the little things about her: like how she had a small dimple on her cheek or how she preferred sneakers over heels.
"Yes."
"Well, no more questions-" Can smiled as he lulled the car to a standstill. "Because we are here."
"What is this place?" Sanem peered out at the big building in front of her, her mind trying to deduce whether it was a restaurant or an arcade of some sort.
"It's an opera house." Can smiled softly as his eyes glazed over with an expression that Sanem couldn't pinpoint.
"Why did you choose here?"
"It's one of the few places I remember in Istanbul." It was then that Sanem was able to decipher the glint in Can's eyes; it was one of nostalgia. Sometimes Sanem forgot the deeply rooted family issues that were prevalent in the Divit family. Emre had always struggled with the weird arrangement with his brother and parents but Sanem had failed to realise that Can had suffered from the same circumstances. In some way, his was worse. Can had been older when their parents had divorced so he remembered a lot more of the good times and the bad. "Back when Mum and Dad were together ... Emre was just a baby, but we'd come and watch shows every Saturday evening. I remember it being really nice-" Sanem appreciated Can's honesty about something that seemed to impact him so greatly. He was being open, emotionally vulnerable, and she couldn't help but acknowledge how natural it all felt. "Besides, I know you're a movie fanatic-"
"And how do you know that?" Sanem asked curiously, a bright smile pasted across her face.
"Because Emre doesn't shut up about you." The comment was meant to be light-hearted but Can couldn't help but grumble in jealousy at the close relationship his brother shared with the woman he was infatuated by.
