The letter fell out of my hands and fluttered to the floor. My throat closed up. I couldn't breathe. It was like all the air had been sucked out of my lungs. I tried taking deep breaths which only resulted in my breathing faster and faster. Anger and grief swelled inside me. It was too late. She was gone.
