"I have called the three of you here today to discuss the... issues that have been present in the August household. Things are changing, beginning now. I will no longer sit here and be the defenseless mother who lets things like fights happen in this house, got it?" Stella August stopped pacing back and forth to look at the three kids, who just stared at her in slight shock.
"I said, got it?!" She demanded louder, getting nods from all of them, including a small yelp from Aspen. "Good. Starting today we will begin with talking about what the hell happened last week, and why my eldest daughter was on the floor crying her eyes out while getting beat to a pulp by the youngest in this family." Stella crossed her arms.
"I will start with you, Juniper. What happened? And I don't want you to spare one single detail, tell me everything on your side. And no peeps from the other two, got it?" She sent a look to Frankie and Aspen, who just quickly nodded and agreed with her.
"I don't know where to start," Juniper replied, leaning back and crossing her arms over her chest. She wanted to be anywhere but here - preferably back in Ethan's bedroom avoiding her family and Benny at all costs like she's been doing the past week or so.
"Don't give me that crap Juniper Sage!" Stella exclaimed, catching Juniper off guard.
None of them had seen Stella so angry, upset and aggressive before, it was beginning to scare all three of them - although Frankie and Juniper would never admit that.
"Fine. I got back from finishing a conversation with Benny, and Frankie immediately started making comments like she does to me every single day. Commenting on how she doesn't see why Benny likes me - when he doesn't - and just says rude, hurtful things to me that a sister should never say to a family member." Juniper finally admitted, Frankie's eyes widening.
"But-"
"Francine I will not sit here and listen to you intervene! I am not getting to you yet." Stella cut Frankie off, pointing a finger at her.
"She called Aspen an orphan, therefore I got angry and she pushed me, I pushed her back, she pushed me to the ground and you know the rest." Juniper rolled her eyes at the memory.
Her face has officially finished healing up, but she was still dealing with the trauma that she didn't want to sit here and talk out loud about what happened over and over because she'd already had to explain to Samantha and Sarah, and Benny has been asking her about it non-stop whenever he sees her.
"Alright. And Aspen?" Stella asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Everything that Juniper said is true, from the part I came in. I heard the yelling, and Frankie called me an orphan, like Juniper said. Then it just escalated." Aspen spoke, slightly waving her hands around in exaggeration. She sat with a very nice posture, her legs pressed together and her back straight, you think she'd get a back ache from sitting like that all the time.
"Okay now you may talk Frankie but without attitude." Stella warned the youngest, who scoffed before beginning her story.
"What they said is true. Normally I would try to lie about something like this but it's very true, and I regretted it as soon as I saw Juniper's face. I'm sorry, okay? I'm so used to getting what I want that when Juniper finally one ups me on something it bothers me and I take it out on her and I shouldn't and I've realized that. She doesn't deserve it, nobody does and I've already basically took the action in grounding myself, I've dropped half of the friends that have that bad influence on me and I've returned everything I've ever took from Juniper." Frankie explained, not only catching Juniper by surprise but also Aspen and Stella herself.
"Alright, Juniper is there anything you'd like to say?" Stella asked, looking at Juniper.
"Fine. I accept your apology." Juniper said in a flat tone, clearly not meaning it.
"That'll have to do from now. Now, some things that will be changing are: no staying out after dark. All three of you, especially you, Frankie, will be in this house before dark, so we can all have dinner together - as a family." Stella began, pacing once again.
Frankie groaned while Aspen nodded, Juniper just watching the ground with a straight face. She couldn't focus on this 'family meeting' as her mother called it, for some reason, all she could think about was Benny.
She was supposed to be mad at Benny, for kissing another girl. For playing with her feelings. For liking him as much as she did, but she couldn't. She went and kissed Ethan, and although it meant nothing she couldn't help but continue to feel the feeling of his lips against hers.
Juniper began to wonder if Benny still felt the lingering feeling of the girl's lips against his. She replayed the conversation in her head over and over again - she knew she messed up by telling Benny nothing is happening between them. But maybe she's wrong, maybe she does know what she wants but she's just scared.
Maybe she does want Benny. She suddenly couldn't stop thinking about pressing her lips against Benny's, seeing if it felt the way she did when she kissed Ethan, or if it felt the way people say.
Shaking the thoughts away, she just continued to listen to her mother rant, lightly smiling at the thought of her mother finally taking control and making things even in their family.
