It had been two weeks and Lizzie Saltzman had seen Rae Fell off and on every restless episode night. It made both their nights better. Lizzie also looked up what could be the tugging she feels but hadn't found really anything.
That night she just went to the grill for no real reason, Lizzie could have slept if she wanted to, but she wanted to see Rae.
As she walked into the Grill she didn't see Rae surprisingly.
Weird. Usually she's always here every night.
Lizzie sat down at their usual booth sighing, so much for today... She tapped her fingers on the table her mind swirling. She is so stupid. Rae Fell could never like her. She is a freak of nature. The lights flickered as her mind continuously over thought.
"Lizzie?"
Lizzie jumped as the lights finally stopped flickering, Lizzie calmed at the sound of her voice, she looked over seeing Rae Fell standing there.
Rae just seemed worse today, it was strange, she seemed worse every day, like something was just making her worse. Lizzie wanted to protect her. So bad. But how?
"Rae," Lizzie wiped her eyes feeling the water in them, "I didn't think you were coming."
Rae frowned, "I can't sleep so."
Lizzie looked at her, she knew that wasn't a lie, but she knew there was much more information.
"Are you okay?" Rae asked.
Lizzie realized she had just wiped her eyes of tears so, "oh, uh, my mind was just being the villain of my story."
Rae nodded as she sat down, all of a sudden the dark blonde grabbed Lizzie's hand surprising her. She just stared at it, tracing her fingers on the lines, Lizzie was really confused.
What if I siphon from her?
You can't. She's human.
Lizzie pushed her betraying thoughts away as she looked at Rae.
"I'm glad I met you, Lizzie, you have made things better for me."
"Huh? Better for you?"
"I don't have anyone else, no friends, I had one. A best friend but she died, and animal attack when we were 15."
Animal attack.
Vampire attack.
Shit.
"I'm sorry," Lizzie showed sympathy but Rae just shrugged, "Rae... Can you tell me the truth, why do you look like your dying little by little every day?"
Rae let out a weak laugh, "you are very blunt," she just bit her lip, "I guess I am, dying little by little every day, on the inside. My mental health is really just getting worse and worse," Rae looked down pulling her hand away much to Lizzie's displeasure, "I don't really see a future for myself."
Lizzie stared at her, her eyes wide, the thought of one day Rae Fell being gone just kind of really hurt. She then grabbed the other girl's hand pulling it close.
"Don't say that!" Lizzie exclaimed, "don't ever say that, Rae, you can have a future-"
"For what reason?" Rae asked bleakly, "with who? No one could love me."
"With me!" Lizzie shouted suddenly a glass interrupted them by breaking loudly on the table next to them!
Lizzie winced knowing it was her. Shit.
Rae blinked, "that's a nice sentiment but you don't care other than the nights we spend together."
"I do," Lizzie argued, "you are all I can think about lately. It's really annoying actually," she just bit her lip, "I feel connected to you, like a tug, I want you and only you, you are the only one who sees the real me."
Rae felt a single tear fall but she wiped it really quickly, "I feel that way too but we only see eachother for a few hours in the middle of the night. That is nothing."
"Rae..."
"Lizzie."
Rae stood up, "I have to go, mom is getting off earlier today if she finds out I've been sneaking out, she'll kill me."
Lizzie stared at the table before she forced herself to stand, she pulled Rae into a hug, Rae tensed up but eased into it.
Lizzie realized Rae was shorter than her at that moment, Lizzie was 5'9 and Rae was maybe 5'4 a bit taller than Hope.
"It's going to be okay," Lizzie reassured though she wasn't sure of her own words but she had to say it.
Rae just smiled at her sadly, "maybe."
Rae then turned and left, Lizzie watched her the entire time, she just didn't want to let her go. She wanted to hold her and make everything better. But she couldn't, Rae didn't want that...
Lizzie snuck back into school, she got into her room feeling like she successfully did it again when Josie Saltzman spoke up.
"Finally."
"Crap," Lizzie swore as she looked at Josie who was staring at her from her bed, "uh hey Josie."
"Lizzie, I've been watching you sneak out for like 2 weeks now, what the hell?" Josie accused.
Lizzie bit her lip, "I've just been going to the Mystic Grill, nothing dangerous."
"Are you dumb? If dad found out-"
"He won't!" Lizzie hissed trying to be quiet, "please, please, don't tell him! Not for my sake but for someone else's who needs me."
Josie tilted her head, she could feel Lizzie was being serious about this, "okay fine. But can we go to bed now?"
"Sure..." Lizzie took off her jacket and changed back into her pajama bottoms before getting back into bed, "goodnight Jo."
"Goodnight Lizzie."
Lizzie stared at the darkness, thinking about Rae Fell, hopefully, she can help her.
