High school came along, and it was one of the best few years of my life. I had my first boyfriend named Jonathan and he was my first kiss as well. I finally was able to go to the same school as my best friend Julie. She and Jonathan are siblings and our parents have been best friends even before any of us were even born. Although I'm two years older than Julie and one more than Jonathan we all get along great.

Ever since I could remember Julie and I have always wanted to move to New York together, and go to NYU. When I first went to New York City at the age of 13, I fell in love with it, I knew immediately that at some point in my life, I would be living here. At some point Julie finally got to know the city and felt the same. Now all we had to do was convince our parents to let us move there at the age of 18 and 20.

Surely enough after years of "Please" and "We will be safe" our parents agreed. So here I am, working in my final day at Starbucks, being here for 5 years starting in my sophomore year of high school. It was bittersweet to be leaving but at the end of the day I knew that I was heading for bigger and better things. Since I'm two years older than Julie I had to stick around waiting for her to finish high school. But it was also a good thing because it meant that I had a lot of time to save up money.

As I take off my apron and my hat, I say my final goodbyes to my co-workers and they wish me luck in my future. "Crystal wait" my boss Riley calls out to me.

I turn to her "Yes mam?".

"Oh please, don't call me that anymore, we've passed that already."

She then hands me a couple of stapled papers that say Crystal Mendes. "What's this?"

I ask her "It's a letter of recommendation, so when you get to New York and apply for a job to another Starbucks, show them this, you work hard, and you will eventually be the boss."

My heart jumps. I've been so worried about whether or not I would get a job.

"Thank you so much Riley."

"Of course, darling, send me pictures, I still want to see how you're doing!"

When I get home my parents greet me. "Are you ready?" they ask me.

"Yeah, I think I am." This is all I've ever wanted to move to New York with my best friend and boyfriend. I receive a text message from Julie saying, "tomorrow is our official day of freedom!!" I smile at her text, I'm just happy to be living in the city of my dreams.

The loud ringing of my alarm startles me. I pick up my phone: 4:00 am. Ugh. Wait, todays New York. I spring off my bed and change into sweatpants and a t shirt. Of course, Julie and Jonathan are already here. Her being the way she is, woke up at 2. "Hi babe" Jonathan tells me and gives me a kiss on the cheek. We've been together for 3 years now. He is going to be living down the street from us because he wanted us to have our privacy and well, Julie didn't want him near us. I understand her though he can be a pain, but I still love him.

We say goodbye to our parents and when they tear up that's our cue to leave.

The airport is crowded as always, the three of us start making our way to the gate and wait until our flight is ready to be boarded.

"You nervous?" I ask Julie. She's never really been away from her parents for a long period of time.

"Yea, it will be hard at first, but I have to grow up eventually." I smile at her

"Don't worry, New York's beauty will take your nerves away." Jonathan walks up to us and gives us coffee as the three of us it down and look for all the thing we will be doing at our first day.

"Flight 523 for New York City is now boarding passengers" I immediately stand up and Jonathan and Julie laugh at my excitement. New York is my absolute dream city and so is NYU and I'm so grateful to say that I will be going there. As we sit down in our seats I pull up the blocker from the window. Jonathan puts his arm around me and kisses my forehead.

"I'm so lucky to have you" I smile at him.

"I'm lucky to have both of you." I tell them

As I rest my head in Jonathan's arm I look out at the sky full of clouds. I'm ready for New York.
