Chanel's POV
"So you mean like Dreamgirls, Dreamgirls." Rachel said over Skype.
"Yes, that Dreamgirls." I said laughing.
"The one your mom was nominated for?" She asked.
"Yes." I said.
"Damn, you know people gonna give you the side eye." She said
"They been giving me the side eye, it's nothing new." I said.
"So you gonna actually watch it?" She asked.
"I don't know." I said. "It's awkward, my mom, Jamie Foxx, like eww!"
She laughed.
"Your gonna have to watch it." She said.
"We shall see." I said
"How's your mom taking it?" She asked.
"She's good but I can tell she mean business." I said. "She was like do you really wanna do this because I'm not gonna waste my time."
"Damn, she ain't playing." She said. "But look who her daddy is."
"True." I said. "You ready to go to Houston?"
"Oh yes." She said. "I got my hat and cowboy boots."
I shook my head.
"You don't need that." I said. "We're going to Houston, not the wild wild west."
"Whatever." She said. "I gotta go. School awaits."
"Aight." I said.
I turned off my laptop and grabbed my backpack and left the room to meet Damien in the living room. He wasn't there so I went in the kitchen. He was getting something out the microwave. I was trying to figure out what it was until he turned around and handed it to me.
"You was reading my mind." I said smiling.
"Mhum." He said as he took a bite.
Yes, we're eating hot pockets for breakfast. I mean in middle school I used to thank the black panthers every morning for breakfast at school. They would give us hot pockets then so I think we'll be fine eating them now. We got in the car and were driven to school. School wasn't bad. I went to my classes and chilled basically. I went to my locker to get my English book for homework.
"Hey girl." I heard.
I closed my locker.
