Weather the Storm

Chapter 2

Felix POV

"Marzia! Marzia, are you ready?" I hollered down the hall.

"Just a minute!" I heard her voice coming from our bedroom. I sighed and tapped my foot impatiently. Why was she taking so long? Marzia was normally a quick dresser, so what was the hold-up? Suddenly, I heard the clicking of high heels coming down the hall. Turning around, my jaw dropped. Marzia looked stunning. She was wearing a light blue flowing dress, complemented by stark white high heels and a pearly headband.

"Do I look okay?" she asked worriedly. To some, it might seem like she was fishing for compliments. But I knew that she was genuinely worried about whether she looked "okay".

"Okay? You look...perfect!"

She blushed. "Thank you."

"Nobody can look as fabulous as ME, though," I added after a second's thought, laughing.

"I'm sure of that," Marzia began to laugh too.

"Ready now?"

"Yes, I think so. Let me just grab my purse." As Marzia walked out the door, I hesitated for a moment. I had a good feeling about today.

"You go get in the car. I'll be there in a minute. I think I left my phone in the bedroom. Marzia nodded and opened the door into the car. I quickly raced back up the stairs to our bedroom, and opened my drawer where I kept my shirts. I dug around for a few moments, then slipped a tiny box into my pocket.

Marzia POV

I heard the door slam, and then I watched Felix walk down the steps a few moments later.

"Did you find your phone?"

"Yep, it was on the dresser," he answered, not looking at me. It was unusual for him to not look at me when we're talking. However, a moment later he straightened up and smiled his beautiful smile, and I figured I must've just imagined it.

However, as we were driving, I noticed that he was being very jumpy and easily surprised.

"Felix?"

"Yeah?"

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" he answered. Felix was very rarely in this state, it only happened when he was worried or nervous, such as when he had to come with me to see my parents. I had lost almost all contact with them after they heard I was dating Felix, and they did not approve. They attempted to separate us, but after a while, it became evident that we were not about to break up. My dad had declared that I was no longer his daughter until I stopped seeing Felix. I cried for days. Luckily, Felix was there for me.

Felix POV

Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Marzia looking at me, concerned. I tried to hide it, I really did. However, one dark thought hung over me like a storm cloud. Although there were a million reasons why I figured she would accept, there was always the fact that I may have missed something. If she said no, I didn't know what I would do. Could we still have a relationship if it wasn't serious? What if she was seeing someone else? Could we even still be friends? I shook my head to clear my thoughts. We were almost at the restaurant.

I had taken special care to choose an Italian restaurant. I could tell that as much as she liked being in Sweden with me, she still missed Italy.

"Oh Felix! Thank you so much!" I heard her exclaim, as the restaurant name came into view. "The Olive Branch! It's just like home."

We went inside and picked our favourite table. It was next to a beautiful mosaic of Italy. After Marzia had ordered her favourite dish, I glanced at the menu and ordered a simple meal of pasta and meatballs. Marzia looked at me questioningly. She knew I normally had the appetite of an elephant. However, I was feeling too nervous to eat.

Once the waiters had returned with our meals, I picked at my pasta while Marzia dug into her pizza. After she was done, we paid the bill and we left.

As we got into the car, Marzia asked, "Where are we going now?"

"To our harbour."

Marzia grinned. She knew what I meant. There was a beautiful outlook over the sea on one of the harbours. It was special to us because we had had our first date there.

We drove on in silence until we arrived.

Marzia POV

As we walked along the harbour, we finally arrived at our favourite bench. It gave us a perfect view of the setting sun. I snuggled up to Felix, feeling his heart beat against my head. Suddenly, he got up. I looked at him, surprised. Then he did the last thing I expected.

He got down on one knee and pulled out a small, dark blue box from his pocket.

"Marzia Bisgonin, you are the love of my life. Will you be mine forever?" On "forever", he popped open the box, revealing a silver band with a perfectly placed diamond. As I picked it up gently, I noticed the inscription on the side. Felix had actually gotten it engraved with the words "I love you" in careful handwriting.

"Oh Felix, of course I will!"

He stood up and I kissed him without hesitation. I'm sure we looked very odd to passing people, two lovers framed against the setting sun, but to us, it was the most beautiful moment ever.
