The first presidential debate was tonight, lets just say the nerves were high with the Washington campaign. Higher staff members were rushing around to make sure Washington would be prepared for any question that came his way, weather it be student debt or health care reform, they had to be on top of it. While lower staff members were busy doing to actual research to make sure they were feeding Washington correct information. Though no matter how prepared they tried to be people could help but be nervous, about two interns had thrown up already and they still had six hours until the debate started.
At this very moment Washington's closest staffers were working with him making sure he answered all questions thoughtfully and eloquently.
"Sir, what is your stance cutting taxes for the rich?" Alexander asked.
Washington nodded as he thought. "I have found that those with the most money don't tend to spend it, but, hold onto it." He started. "Therefore I would propose cutting taxes for the middle class and raising taxes for the 1%."
"And how do you believe this will help the economy?" Eliza chimed in thoughtfully.
"The middle class statistically spends the most, feeding more into our economy, while if the rich pay more taxes we have more recourses to put into public health and bringing more people up into middle class living which will in turn bring more money into the economy." Washington told them and everyone nodded happy with this response as it was clear and concise.
"What are your thoughts on student debt sir?" Angelica asked as she entered the room not bothering to check if anyone had been asking a question before she entered.
"Elizabeth have you gotten the statistics for me?" Washington asked.
"Oh yes sir, right here." She said pulling the forms out of her folder and handing them to him.
Washington read over them and nodded. "Well, collectively Americans have 1.5 trillion dollars in college debt, I believe this is a problem." He said with a nod. "People shouldn't have to have get into crippling debt just to get an education."
"And if you believe this is a problem, how do plan on fixing such problem?" Lafayette asked from the corner of the room.
"We need more jobs, better paying jobs." He said firmly. "We can't change how private colleges conduct their business, but, we can change how we conduct our country."
Eliza smiled softly as she listened, she always found Washington to have such a power to him. Of course most of his best speeches came from Alexander, but, the way he spoke the words with such hope and strength, she found it to be very inspirational. She was so caught up in her thoughts she hardly noticed when she was hit with a dizzy spell until Alexander held her shoulder.
"Baby, you Okay?" He asked as she almost stumbled over, but, managed to steady herself with Alexander's help.
"Oh, yeah, yeah.... I'm good." She said softly. "I think I just need to sit down."
"Okay, do you need some water? Juice? Anything?" Alexander asked worriedly.
"I'm fine Alex." She said as she sat down. "You don't need to get me anything." She assured him with a smile.
"I'm sorry Alexander is this preparatory work getting in the way of your romance?" Washington asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Oh- no- no sir." He said quickly as he stood up straighter. "Eliza was just feeling a bit dizzy- I was just helping."
"We'll help a little more quietly next time."
"Yes sir."
Four hours until the debate
"Eliza?" Alexander called out as he walked down the hallway of the estate they were currently stay at.
"Lizzy?!" Angelica called right after Alexander, that's when they heard groaning come from the bathroom.
"Babe... is that you..?" Alexander as he slowly approached of the bathroom.
"It's... it's me..." she groaned then a loud hurling sound came right after.
"Are you Okay?" Angelica asked worriedly.
"Yeah... just some... nerves.." she panted.
"You need help?" Alexander asked softly.
"I'll be okay, I'll be just fine...."
Two hours until the debate
People were stressed, the minutes seemed to be going faster and faster as they hurried faster and faster. Eliza was working her ass off trying to get all of her things done on time, and so was Alexander, he might have been working even harder. Though he always worked harder than everyone, side effect of being born in such shitty circumstances.
There they were working side by side and working tirelessly. That's when Alexander looked over Eliza, god he loved her so much, she was so amazing and though he'd never admit it, he thought- he knew- she was too good for him. In ever sense of the phrase and he just hoped that she wouldn't figure it out because losing her might be too much for him to bare.
"Maybe you should take a break Liza?"
"What about you? You never take breaks." She shot back causing him to laugh softly.
"That's fair..." He admitted.
"So, can I get back to work?"
"I mean we're gonna be up pretty late are you sure you don't wanna take a nap or something..?"
"What you don't think I can handle it?"
"You know I know you can, you just don't like staying up late in general..."
"You're Just said that cause now I'm your girlfriend and your trying to protective or something."
"No, I'm saying that because yesterday you went to sleep at 8:30."
"So I could stay up late tonight." She explained to him.
"Okay, Okay." He conceded, "it was just a suggestion."
"Well I'll be just fine, thank you."
One minute until the debate
Eliza, Alexander and Angelica walked a step behind Washington as he made his way to the main stage for the debate. Eliza was so nervous she was shaking, but, wouldn't let that stop her.
Her nerves wouldn't stop her, especially when she had Angelica and Alexander with her. She knew that she could count on them no matter what, so no matter how nerve wracking the first debate may be, she knew that they would get through this.
They stopped walking, staying behind stage as Washington walked out, waving at the crowd then shaking the hand of his opponent. This was it, it was starting. She heard the moderator begin his opening statement then everything went black.
