When Eliza woke up she was in a hospital bed, Alexander right by her side and her sisters sleeping on the chairs next to him. She could hear the debate on the tv in the room, which meant she hadn't been out too long.
"Eliza, you're up, how're you feeling?" Alexander asked concernedly.
"Fine." She told him, however he didn't look convinced of this. "Really, I really feel fine."
"Well I'll wake up your sisters, they were really worried, they'll want to know." He said turning to the two girls, shaking Angelica just a bit.
"Huh? What? What do you want?" She asked sitting up, which moved Peggy causing her to wake up.
"What's going on?" She asked as she sat up herself.
"Eliza woke up." Alexander explained to them which resulted in the sisters getting up and hurrying to Eliza's side.
"Are you Okay? How do you feel? How long have been feeling sick? Why didn't you tell anyone?" Angelica started immediately, Eliza responder with a sigh.
"I feel fine, I told Alex and I'll tell you, I truly honestly feel perfectly fine."
"And she should." The doctor chimed in as he'd just walked in a moment ago.
"What do you mean?" Peggy asked as they all turned to look at him. "She passed out completely out of the blue for no reason? And you're saying she's fine."
"Well She seems to fine, I have a few more exams to do, but I have no reason to believe she is sick." He said walking over to Eliza's right side. "Now miss Schuyler, I'm going to need to draw some blood, it's going to pinch just a little, is that alright?"
"Yes, that's just fine." She told him and before she knew it he had a small vile of her blood.
"I'll be back in just a while." He explained before leaving.
And that promise was kept, they all stayed silent as he was gone. They didn't want discuss what he could be testing for, it could be anything and they didn't want to believe that something or anything horrible could happen. They all stayed silent and watch the debate until the door opened once more and the door re-emerged from the hallway.
"Well it was just as we suspected." He announced.
"What is it? Will she be okay."
"Well yes, but, she needs to be much more careful from now on, she passed out because she was malnourished and dehydrated." He explained.
"What? That makes no sense, I ate as much as I always do, I've never had a problem before." She said utterly confused with this news.
"Well you're pregnant Miss Schuyler, you have to eat more than you did before, you're eating for two now."
Everyone was shocked, they were somehow more speechless than they were before. Everything had changed in that moment, all that would or could be in their lives was now much different and that was it.
"Can I speak to Alexander- alone, please." Eliza said not paying attention to anything else, her sisters knew this and didn't attempt to disagree so they followed the doctor out of the room.
"You- I- Uh, oh- it- we... huuuuuh." Was all Alexander could manage, a look a scared confusion on his face.
"Alexander, we have speak like adults now." She said calmly, even though on the inside she was panicking because what if he left her, what if he hated her, what if her whole family hated her, shamed her for this. She knew there was nothing wrong with it, she hadn't planned on having children so soon, but, she knew she could handle it. What she was worried about was if everyone else could, especially Alexander.
"R-right, I can do that... I have words.."
"Alexander, I want you to understand that I am keeping this child, I know I have other options, but for me in this time I feel I am able to have a child." She said taking a deep breath before continuing. "Now I understand if you don't want to be apart of this, I don't want to-"
"Excuse me?" Alexander interrupted as he stood up, sounding completely different, as if a switch had been flipped in his head. "You think I would abandon my child? Cause I wouldn't! I'm a good person, I wouldn't do that, I know what that's like, so- so-"
"We're having a baby..." she said in soft voice.
"Yeah... I, I would suppose that's what's happening..." He agreed as he sunk down into his seat. "Are we keeping quiet about this?" He asked. "Cause we're not being married and stuff?"
"I don't see why I should care what people think- it's only given us hell, right?"
"Right."
"And I just want to live my life, even if we're being unorthodox, it's still ours, not theirs."
"You are right about that my love." He said with a sweet smile.
"Well..."
"That's settled."
