Hazel's POV
I half-heartedly chewed a mouthful of porridge, before I decided I couldn't be bothered. I sighed and placed my spoon down with a loud clatter. I winced. The nuns at Saint Agnes's wouldn't be pleased. "Hazel? You okay?" I turned to my side and saw Piper looking at me, her kalidescope eyes looking worried. "Yeah." I mumbled, picking up my spoon. I watched Piper out of the corner of my eye, and I could tell she wasn't convinced.
I'd had a dream. A strange dream.
Back in the 30's, before Gaia got to me and my mother, I had gone to St Agnes's school for coloured children. The nuns who ran the school were white, but they would treat us alright as long as we behaved. Once, one of them was teaching us about how we were actually really lucky. She had mentioned a orphanage in England that some of her sisters had run. When Sammy had asked her about how many orphans there were, and how we knew she wasn't lying to us.. she showed us pictures. Sammy was caned afterward.
One of the pictures was of a boy whom she called Tom Riddle. He was handsome, and most of the students thought so, but I could see something... unsettling in that photo. There was a glimpse of a grimy mirror in the black-and-white photo, and in the mirror was the silhouette of a man... I'm not sure what made me feel uneasy about the man, but he was so.... odd. Also, Tom looked like he was hiding something. The trace of a smile was on his lips, and his eyes looked like he thought he was superior to the rest of us. It was creepy.
But no-one else seemed to notice, so I put it off as me being paranoid. I feel like the dream meant something, but I wasn't sure.
"So Nico, what was your nightmare about?" What? Nico had a nightmare too? Apparently Nico was thinking along the same lines.
"How did you know about that?" he asked her, his tone slightly accusing. Piper shrugged. "Your scream woke me up." She said "But Will seemed to be handling it, so I didn't think I was needed." She said shrugging. Nico visibly relaxed and Will smiled at his lap. Both boys had a hint of a blush on their cheeks. "It was nothing major." said Nico playing with his cereal. "Just something about some guy named Tom Riddle." Oh no.
A clatter reverberated through the room and I felt my face heat up as I ducked under the table to get my fork. I knew they would be looking at me when I came up, so naturally I regretted it when I did.
"Hazel? You alright?" said Will sounding concerned. His eyebrows furrowed as he surveyed me, and his hands started to drift to where his medical kit would be if he was in the Infirmary. "Yeah." I mumbled as I placed my fork back on the table. Luckily, I was saved from giving a more detailed answer by a someone coming in. A certain blond, full of himself, and blond haired someone.
Apollo strutted through the door, wearing shades, shorts and a Bahamas T-shirt. "Hello puny mortals!" He sang walking toward the table. I sighed and picked up another spoon. Clearly the effects of Zeus's punishment were wearing off. Oh well. It was nice when it lasted.
He half-ran half-jogged over to Nico and Will and grabbed the boys wrists, startling them. He pushed his glasses onto his head, and examined their wrists with interest. He whistled. "Fancy!" he said looking at what I assumed were their soulmate tattoos. Nico grimaced at Will, making the tanned boy stifled a laugh. Apollo dropped their hands and walked to the head of the table. "Okay." He said clapping his hands. "Down to business."
"So, as you know, you guys are going to be going on a quest-" "To England." I interrupted. Apollo winced, like he was reliving the fiasco that occurred after he'd let that slip. "Yes." he said looking at me distastefully. "To England."
"Your going to be attending a certain school, which of Hecate will explain more later. This school is... different to say the least. And you probably will be split up once you arrive. So, you need a way to communicate with each other. Nico and Will-" He turned toward the boys. "-you'll be able to communicate through your soulmate marks. The rest of you need to be bonded." He said conversationally. "And that involves having bonding power." The glint in his eyes immediatly put me on guard. "What.... power?" asked Nico warily. Apollo just grinned.
~~~~HOGWARTS~~~~~
A shadowy figure crept across the grounds of Hogwarts, hunchbacked and silent, as if to avoid detection. Wise. No-one wanted to stand out in You-know-who's Hogwarts. She silently glided over to the shadow of a tower, and vanished, reappearing in front of a plain oak door. The figures hood slipped off, revealing a pale woman with a regal face. Inky black hair cascaded from her head, and for a moment, her form flickered. A woman with three heads, not one.
She swung open the door, each creak echoing in the silence of the castle. The figure stepped into an office, where the only sounds were of a scratching quill on parchment and the crackling fire. Even the fire seemed downcast, as if it were contained. No longer giving light and warmth out of generosity, but by order. Hecate wrinkled her nose at the fire. She could tell something was wrong, as fire was one of her elements. It's almost as if Hestia's spirit is not present. She mused.
She turned her attention to the witch who was sitting at the desk in the middle of the room. She was wearing emerald green robes and her fading brownish-ginger hair was pulled into a tight bun. The witch sighed and set down her quill quietly, the sound of the tip on the glass of the inkwell ricochet off the circular wall. Hecate waved her elegant hand quietly, and the witch gave a soft gasp. She stared at the wall with milky eyes and picked up her quill.
Hecate walked over to her and whispered in her ear. "Slytherin - Will Solace and Nico di Angelo. Ravenclaw - Piper Mclean and Hazel Levesque." The names were written on the piece of parchment, alongside many others. Hecate nodded satisfied, and vanished.
