By the time dinner rolled around the news of Richelle Potter punching Draco Malfoy during flying lessons had spread like wildfire. In fact, the first years had spread the story around the whole school and every student knew about the incident. The girls were all sitting at dinner and enjoying their meals when Guinevere heard whispers from in front of them at the Slytherin table.
"That group of girls is nothing but trouble,"
"The Weasley is the worst of the bunch,"
"Yea, her whole family is in Gryffindor except for her,"
"The Rejected Gryffindor. It seems very fitting for her," Guinevere recognized the last whisper, and it was also a bit louder than everyone else's comments. She glances up and sees the smug look of none other than Draco Malfoy sneering at her. Guinevere clenches her fist under the table. Tears rimmed her brown eyes and she tried to not break down. Richelle had noticed that one of her friends had been silent for a few minutes. She looked next to her and saw Guinevere on the verge of tears.
"Guin... what's the matter?" Richelle gently asks. Rosabelle and Susan look at their friend with concern. They'd never seen the usually rambunctious red head upset.
"I hate them. I hate them all." Guinevere practically growled.
"Who?" Rosabelle questions. Guinevere glances over at the Slytherin table that is laughing and occasionally looking over at them.
"They've been mocking us... calling us names. Apparently, I've been deemed the 'Rejected Gryffindor.'" Guinevere holds back a sob. Never in her life has she been ridiculed that bad, and by her housemates too. In the beginning, she was thrilled to be a Slytherin and not have to live up to her older brother Percy's expectations. Now though, she's not so sure that Slytherin is all that great.
"Don't listen to them Guin. It's not worth your time to worry about it." Susan chimes in. The Slytherins begin to talk louder and all Guinevere can hear is that nickname echoing in her ears. Richelle was slowly getting angrier and angrier upon hearing the Slytherins ridicule her friend.
"I'd say the Potter twins are just as bad. Especially Saint Potter." Draco says once again, loud enough for the four to hear.
"Did you hear that he got on the quidditch team? I'd like to know how he managed that as a first year." Another Slytherin piped up. Draco snorts at the question.
"I know it's hard to believe, but I just think McGonagall is losing it, letting him on the team because he caught Longbottom's remember ball. Honestly, he's not all that great, so I doubt he's on the team for very long." Draco sneers.
After hearing this the ravenette had finally lost her cool, and it was time to end the mockery. Richelle stood up and got her friends's attention in the process.
"What are you doing?" Guinevere asks.
"Sit back down! You look ridiculous!" Rosabelle tells her. A few more students glance over at the ravenette. Her twin scrunches his eyebrows and observes her. He decides to stay quiet though. It was best for him to not but in on the situation that he didn't know anything about.
"Well. It looks like I have mostly everyone's attention," Richelle states. The girls look at their friend in confusion. What did she think she was doing? Richelle steps onto the bench and then onto a clear spot on the table. Everyone stopped eating, and even the teachers looked at the lone student.
"If anyone has a problem with any of my friends then you can take it up with me! And Slytherin house, you should stop with the rude nickname about my friend now before things get ugly." The normally cheerful ravenette was angry for a second time today and it didn't taken long for the Slytherins to quiet down after that outburst. "Thank you for listening, and sorry for interrupting everyone's meal."
With that, Richelle sat back down with a grin on her face and pulled Guinevere into a side hug.
"Don't worry Guin! Nobody is gonna mess with you or any of us anymore!" Richelle grins at her friends before diving back into her meal.
"Thanks Riles. You're the best," Guinevere tells her friend with a smile.
"I think our detention just got longer." Susan mumbles as she looks at the teachers. Half were confused and half were angered at the announcement. She wasn't quite sure what Dracula was feeling at this point. His facial features were hard to decipher for the young Hufflepuff.
"We're having detention with Dracula. I'm sure it won't be that bad." Rosabelle piped up.
"Yea! It's only Dracula! Maybe while we're in detention we can talk him into letting us go find our unicorn!" Richelle says cheerfully. The girls smile and shake their heads at their enthusiastic friend. Only Richelle Potter would want to discuss something that could get them in more trouble to a professor while serving detention.
