"A body wasn't found." Kijun states as her chewed doughnut bite is pressed against the inside of her cheek. "The police only found blotches of blood on the sidewalk, but nobody was even around to witness it." She continues, then swallows her leftover contents.
My intern brings me a cup of a double Mocha latte and the stack of photos that were taken late last night at the investigation scene. I take a sip of my coffee after eating a part of my donut and begin glancing closely at these images. Bright lights are shone on the blood, but I see a shadowy figure.
"Wait a second. I did see somebody last night! Right after Ken left me. That's odd." I speak aloud, trying to get a better look, but it's hopeless. I can't make out the man's face.
"Ken?" Leo questions with a curiously defensive tone, glaring over at me. Kijun just turns her chair, not wanting to get involved with the conflicting drama that Leo is most likely about to start. She grabs the files and starts to work on editing them.
"Let's take this outside," I roll my eyes and stand up, grabbing the fabric on his sleeve, yanking him up and we move outside silently. I am facing the building in front of him, glaring intently with my eyebrows furrowed.
Leo stares right back at me attentively. "So, is this 'Ken' guy a boyfriend?" He throws his hands up and puts quotations with his fingers while he says Ken's name.
I scoff, crossing my arms. "He's just a friend, Leo." I state firmly. "Do you have a problem with that?"
"Perhaps we could be more." Ken walks up and wraps his arms around me from behind with a sly smile on his face, looking at Leo. He looks like he was heading somewhere.
I swiftly turn around in shock. "Ken!" I exclaim cheerfully, hugging him.
Ken laughs. "I'm happy to see you too, Jiyeon. Who is your friend here?" He cocks his head.
"My coworker and a really good friend, Leo," I can tell Leo is a little protective to see how close Ken and I are, as I look at his expression a little deeper. "Leo, this is Ken."
"Nice to meet you, Leo." Ken bows slightly with his mouth pulled into his teeth-rich smile, him now standing beside me at close range. His incredibly handsome hair is shifted to the side.
Leo just looks at our proximity, his face and eyes are heavy with jealously. "Nice to meet you too." He says incoherently with little meaning to it. I begin to feel slightly awkward, but I explain to Leo on how Ken and I went to school together.
Suddenly, Kijun comes out to check on us and pauses. "What's going on? Is everything okay?" She asks, confused.
"Yes, everything is fine, Kijun, this is Ken." I smile and lock arms with him, unintentionally.
She bows and smiles politely, but after getting a second glance, she tilts her head as if indicating that she is trying to remember something. Her body immediately freezes, trying to make it go unnoticed. She takes a small pause, attempting to think about what to do. "Hi, I'm Kijun." Her voice stutters.
Ken plays it off completely nonchalantly. "Hello."
Kijun lowers her eyes in utter shock and nods slowly. "Excuse me," She bows to everyone and heads back inside quickly.
Kijun P.O.V
"Fuck." I mumble to myself in a frantic state. I look around panicking to make sure nobody is watching me, I turn my head around to each corner of the room and proceed to the filing cabinets.
My fingers are like speedy devils rushing through all of the manila envelopes, searching for the right one. I finally find it and shove it into my bag hurriedly and silently, my heart races. I take deep breaths to calm myself down. I close the cabinet and sit at the table, opening my laptop to continue today's work as if nothing happened.
