I use my quirk to sleep sometimes. It's a bad habit because it uses up the fat I'm supposed to save for combat, but I like to have more time in my day to do as I please. Normally I slow time so I can sleep for an hour in minutes, and wake up in an hour or so totally refreshed. Thanks to this I woke up before most of my family and made my way down to the kitchen to discuss breakfast with my staff. We settled on a menu the guests could choose from and got to work on prep. Most of the staff was Gretchen's family and had the same acceleration quirk as her. A couple of her kids were quirkless or had their dad's quirk, but most of them were just super fast. Still though, there were fourteen guests and me to feed, and that didn't include any of the staff meals. And knowing my family, if we weren't prepared to feed them all at the same time then they'd be there all at once. We turned on the radio and got to work. I helped with the cleaning and chopping of the fruits and vegetables with the quirkless kitchen member, Kimiko, so I could slow time for both of us and we could keep up with the other three.
Around seven, people started wandering into the dining room where Gretchen was waiting with her tablet ready to take their orders. By seven thirty we had just about everyone's orders and had started sending out food. Kimiko and I helped with plating, but you could definitely tell which ones were ours compared to those of the other kitchen staff, even though everyone assured us ours were just as good. By eight everyone but my brother and I were fed, so we made him a plate and stuck it in the microwave, and I ate my food with the staff like normal. The first couple days were supposed to be a sort of rest period since I wouldn't be home enough to be with them until the weekend, but apparently, some of the older guests made plans to go shopping and exploring the town. They left along with the little ones and said they'd be back before I had to go to work. I got a call from Sir asking Mirio and I to see him immediately because he had a new support item to test, so off we went.
We headed into the Nighteye Agency and got changed to start the testing. Sir sat me in a chair and had me put on our usual sensors, plus some kind of strap that went across my chest. I was told to take a deep breath and relax as much as possible, and he started the machine. The next thing I remember is waking up suspended in a blue bubble and hitting the floor. Sir was smiling, and that might have been the happiest I'd ever seen him, but Mirio looked like he was going to burst into tears. I touched the bubble while trying to get up, and it popped, making me fall again. My keeper dove towards me and helped me up, asking me tons of questions on our way back to my chair. I felt dizzy and hungry, but other than that I was fine. I looked at Sir and asked what happened.
He looked like a mad scientist, "I sent an amp through you, and you should've died, but I was right. You have some kind of either fail-safe or revival system linked with one of your other quirks. So all that's left is to see which it is."
Mirio looked like he was the one who'd be having a heart attack next, "How do we tell?"
"We see if she can summon it before or after she's taken too much damage." He looked to me and gestured towards the strap, "You still have enough fat to try one more time, so we're gonna give it one more go, and then you two can go upstairs. Put the strap back on with the sensors over your spine and your heart please."
I looked over to Mirio and couldn't control my giggling, "If this works, is it murder or suicide."
Mirio looked like he was barely holding it together, "Please don't say that."
I was told to relax again, and Sir switched on the machine. It started as a strong tingle that made it a little hard to breathe and eventually I couldn't breathe or move at all. I woke up in the bubble again, but much more sore and feeling like the world was spinning. Mirio sat on the ground talking to me about being okay and ice cream I think. I figured out that if I don't try to get up, then I stay suspended in the bubble. Sir noticed I was awake though and told me to get up because his sensors weren't connecting properly. I told him I would in a minute, and he came over to pop my bubble. He tapped it and hit it, and then he punched it hard, and that made me fall to the floor. Sir told Mirio to get me out, so the blond asked me nicely and put his hand upon the bubble. I giggled and met his hand, popping it. He giggled too and held my hand while helping me up to my feet. Sir asked me to run through my quirks, and as soon as Mirio let go of me I hit the floor again. It hurt at first, but then it was cold, and I was way too warm not to like it. Sir told us we were dismissed and that if we weren't fit for patrols tonight we could be excused from it. I thanked him as Mirio threw me over his shoulder and grabbed my things for us to leave.
