Victoria woke up to a knock on her door, around evening. She'd arrived in Monte Carlo the previous day, for the final race of the season. After the free practice and interviews in the morning, she decided to sleep off the jet lag while Rafa went out to explore the city.
Besides, she was in no mood to go sightseeing. After yet another monotonous interview with most of the questions asked to her dad, she felt as if she was invisible to the reporters. She had walked out of interview after being asked a question about how she felt racing against Adam.
She opened the door to see Adam, looking quite perplexed.
"Hey, Dad, what's up?" She asked.
"We need to talk," Adam said as he walked into the room.
"About what?"
"Well, first of all, you've rarely talked to me or anyone except Rafa after we left New York, and this morning you literally stormed out of the interview! What's this about?"
"It's nothing dad..." she said, trying to deflect the question, "I'm just stressed out is all.."
"I've seen you stressed out, Vicki. This is not like you to just walk out of an interview. What happened?"
"You want to know what's wrong?!" Victoria screeched angrily.
"You know, living with you the past few years, it hasn't been easy. People see me, but as soon as they hear 'Ramsey' they think of you. Do you know what it's like living under that shadow?
"Shadow? You've got a lot going on for yourself, Vicki... you're an F2 champion, you're a race winner in FE..." Adam replied.
"What, my last name? That's the reason I got into many teams in junior formulae easily... That's the reason I got a Williams drive in my rookie F1 season. I had started to get a little something for myself, first female F2 champion, youngest female F3 champion, youngest female on an F1 podium, and bam! you're back in racing... The entire reason I got a Formula E drive is because my dad bought a team and hired me as a driver!"
"But Vicki, since then you've proven yourself worthy of that drive, you've won races and podiums!..." Adam countered.
"But no one cares about that, dad! Everyone cares only about Adam Ramsey. In every single interview, 90 percent of the questions are to you. Whenever someone asks me a question, it's always 'What's it like racing against your dad?' or 'How does it feel to be teammates with your dad?' or something along that lines..."
"Vicki..." Adam began, "You're your own person. I don't want to cast a shadow on you. That's the last thing I ever wanted to do."
"I know it's not what you wanted to do, but that is simply how it is. It's not easy coming up in this sport as the daughter of someone who is hailed as one of F1's all-time greats. Right now, it's casting a fairly large shadow...."
