Eliza:
"I don't get it, why is this such a big deal to you?!" I raised my voice, getting frustrated.
"Because, if we're gonna get married I think we should do it right!"
"What the hell is wrong with getting eloped? Plenty of people do that!"
"Do you really want some barely qualified idiot marrying us in the middle of nowhere?"
"That only happens in the movies!"
"Those kinds of unqualified idiots exist in reality too!"
"Well, then we can go to someone qualified!"
"Why the hell do you want this so bad?!"
"Because I don't have a family!"
"Wha-"
"Face it Sam! Besides you and your mother, I have no one! All I have is a shitty cousin who just stood in the back and watched as her mother treated me like I was some kind of chore!" I exclaimed before running off and locking myself in the bedroom, letting the tears flow freely.
I might act like it doesn't bother me that I have no one, but it does. I was embarrassed by the thought of me having no one to walk me down the aisle on our wedding day. To not have what everyone has. A family to call my own. I never got that until now and it embarrassed me to realize that.
Sam:
Hearing her say that made me feel like such an ass. Here I was talking about all the people to invite to our wedding while she had no one to invite. I thought about it for a while, when an idea came to me. I've gotta tell Liza this, but first I needed to make sure she was okay.
I made my way to the room, seeing it was locked, telling me that she was in there. I gently knocked on the door, only to get no response in return.
"Liza? Liza, I know you're in there."
Still no response. I sighed, before continuing.
"Look, I know you're upset, but we can't fix this if you keep shutting me out."
"Leave me alone," she mumbled through the door, sounding like she had been crying, which made me feel worse than I already did.
Finally, I decided to just get the spare key and unlock the door. I opened the door to find her on the floor with her head to her knees. I walked over and pulled her into my arms, her quiet sniffles now becoming more audible. We stayed like this for a while and she soon tired herself out and fell asleep. I picked her up and put her on the bed before joining her myself, seeing that it was getting late anyway. Guess this conversation will have to continue in the morning. I pulled the sheets over us before falling asleep myself.
