Chapter Four
Everything was black around me and for a second I thought I was blind. With panic seizing me I wiggled but I realized I was underneath Loki. With a start I opened my eyes and mentally slapped myself for my stupidity. Of course I wasn't blind I just had my eyes closed. Loki's arms were placed on either side of me with his head hovering above mine, his eyes frantically searching my face. "Are you alright?" he asked eagerly, his face inches from mine. I blinked rapidly and started to answer when Thor screamed with fury "Loki! You cannot take her I will not let you! Even if I have to turn every piece of rubble to find you in this mess I will! I will not let you go that easily!" Loki laughed at this and I could feel his chest rumble, his eyes still transfixed on me. "Are you hurt?" he whispered. His eyes trailed down me, searching for injuries. "Well from earlier when you landed, my foot got crushed but other than that I'm fine" I answered with a hint of sarcasm. Loki looked back at me and I thought I saw guilt flash in his eyes. Loki abruptly stood up, offering his hand. I gladly took it and he held me close whispering "Which foot is injured?" I pointed to my left foot and Loki nodded. "Thor? This has been fun but my lady is hurt and I will have to tend to her back at my location. We shall see you again soon brother!" Thor turned towards us and shot his hammer in our direction. Loki easily dodged it and shot a blue flame from his staff back at Thor. The pain in my foot was almost unbearable at this point and I found myself leaning into Loki, my vision clouded and my head heavy. Loki saw this and picked me up and carried me over to a parked car, gently leaning me against it. At this time I probably should have been confused of why he was being so nice to me, but instead I was to overwhelmed by the pain throbbing.
I groaned as another shot of pain went up my leg, and Loki ran back to face Thor. "Thor I do not wish to fight you. Another time yes, but right now I must tend to the mortal girl. She is hurt and if you want her to live I suggest you leave us alone." Thor looked at me with a pained expression turning to Loki "Loki I will not give up. I will find you and take this mortal girl back to her home. You can be sure of that." Thor glared at Loki and Loki nodded with a smile as he walked towards me. Without any hesitation Loki picked me up and carried me back towards Thor. He was surprisingly strong and picked me up with ease, not the slightest bit of struggle showing on his face. I wrapped my arms around his neck as he carried me and glanced behind him. Why was he being so nice to me? He could have easily just let Thor kill me with his hammer by accident and the deal would be over. He didn't have to protect me.
The crowd was now standing again with reporters and news vans all over the place. As I searched the crowd I met Jeremy's eyes and he stared back at me hopelessly. I nodded and gave him a small smile, my throat burning but no tears came. I guess I had cried too much already and didn't have any more to spare for Jeremy. He smiled back and a tear fell from his face. I guess he really did care about me. My gut clenched as I thought back and realized Jeremy must have really cared about me. I could have had a possible love life, but now that's all gone. With one last look I turned to face front again and caught Loki staring at me curiously. He stopped a foot or so away from Thor and glared at him menacingly. "Say hi to Odin for me." he muttered, his grip tightening. "Loki" Thor growled "I will find you". A smile formed Loki's lips as he whispered back "Promise?" before a flash of white came over the two of us, taking us away from the only home I've ever known.
