Chapter Eight
I did not want to get out of bed this morning. I had been tossing and turning all night and going over what had happened last night at dinner. I don't even know what came over me! Something... Changed in Loki last night. Well besides his whole.. Changing into a blue giant thing. He looked almost... vulnerable. He showed a side of him that I've certainly never seen before, with him going all blue like that. He said he was a monster and normally I would have agreed with him but now I'm not so sure. I've come to realize that Loki isn't all that he seems to be (obviously with the whole turning blue part). He's lonely, heartbroken and his family hates him. I don't know the whole story behind everything yet but from the bits and pieces that I've picked up I can tell that Loki feels betrayed by his family. I was up for most of the night with more questions surfacing everytime I drifted into sleep. My feelings for him have.. Changed I guess. Now that I know more about him I don't hate him. I still hate what he did to me, but now i think he only did it because he's so lonely up here, wherever I am. This would have been much easier if he was just purely evil and left me in here, stuffing food through a little hole in the door. A knock came at the door, interrupting my thoughts. "Miss Clark? Have you awakened?" "Yes I am awake" I muffled through the pillows and blankets surrounding me. "It is almost noon, why don't you come out for some food?" At the mention of food my stomach growled and I groaned, slowly getting out of bed. "I'll be there in a minute!" I yelled back.
A minute was definitely not enough. My hair was crazy, my long brown hair all knotted and bunched up. Dark circles were definitely not attractive. I quickly washed my face and found some make up in the bathroom to put on.I loaded on the foundation around my eyes, but smoothed it out along the rest of my face. One of the perks of being me, was that I had a blemish-free face. God had graced me with at least something good. I brushed my knotted hair quickly and painfully, while trying to find something to wear. I settled on a coral blue strapless sundress, flowing down to just above my knees.
With a final check in the mirror, I headed towards the door snagging the same shoes I wore yesterday before I grabbed the doorknob. The same butler stood there waiting and offered me his arm with a warm smile. I looped my arm through his as he lead me through the castle. The butler lead me into the dining room once more. A large window was at the end of the room, something I didn't notice last night. The curtains were drawn back and the sun was shining through brilliantly, making the chandelier twinkle its diamonds all over the room. The table was filled with a variety of breakfast meals, including my favorite, French toast. Pancakes, waffles, toast, bagels, and eggs covered the counter as well. My stomach growled again and the butler chuckled beside me and whispered "Go ahead Miss Clark".
I was so excited to try everything I practically skipped over to the table with a smile plastered on my face. I took my plate and tried a bit of everything, filling my plate up with delicious food. Once I my plate was filled a smaller table stood in the corner with a single chair with a note. I walked over and set my plate and utensils down and picked up the note. It said:
Dear Miss Clark
I cannot join you for breakfast today, as I have other duties to attend to. If you need anything my butler Langridge will assist you. Just call his name and he should be there rather fast, you'd be surprised.
-Loki
I read over the note and felt a bit disappointed, but I shook it off fast. 'I don't care' I thought 'Not like I wanted to see him anyways.' I bit my lip, knowing that was a lie. I wanted to see his face when he saw me, I wanted him to tell me I was pretty or just make him smile. My face flushed in embarrassment and I picked at my meal, my appetite and enthusiasm gone. "What have I gotten myself into" I mumbled.
Once I was done picking at my food, I called Langridge and he was at my side in an instant. "How did you do that?" I asked. "It's one of my many talents" he mused. He took my arm and toured the castle with me. He showed me a beautiful kitchen, it must have come straight out of an IKEA catalogue. The counters were black marble, all the cupboards black with the biggest fridge and stove I have ever seen. He lead me through the massive kitchen and we were in a sort of living room. Dark green couch sets with a black rug filled the room, with another fireplace and a balcony. We stepped outside and my view was the same as my room. A barren, dirt wasteland. "Where are we exactly Langridge?" I asked, turning towards him. He paused but then cleared his throat saying "Well we are most certainly far away from Earth, but we are in fact just around Asgard. The lord has made a parallel universe of sorts, and we live right under the kings nose, he just doesn't know it".
I didn't understand the whole Asgard part, but something else was bothering me so I left it alone for now. After a sigh I asked him tentatively "How did Loki find you Langridge? Why are you here serving him?".
Langridge stiffened beside me and turned away, facing out towards the sun. "I'm sorry I don't mean to pry, I was just wondering" I stepped up beside him and looked up at his face set in stone. "It's quite alright dear, human minds are very curious. I will tell you why. I guess I can start off with saying the man saved my life".
