Chapter Fifteen
Silence. That's all I could hear. That's all I've been hearing for a while now, with only my heart beating erratically and my shallow breath to comfort me. I pressed my ear up against the cold door once more, but I was only answered in a deadly silence. I began pacing once more, my mind taunting me with every horrible thing that could have happened to Loki. My cheeks were wet from a never-ending fall of tears from my eyes. My heart ached for him, a hollow melancholy feeling making its way through my entire being threatening to suffocate me. I chastised myself for being so worried, he was a god after all. Not an immortal god a dark thought entered my mind. A sob lurched from my throat, stopping my pacing.
My thoughts were interrupted as a faint knock came on the door. Thats all it took for the poisonous hollow ache to leave, with a bright hope replacing it. My wet eyes fell to the door with my heart bursting from excitement. A wide smile formed on my face as I ran towards the door. "Amy? Is it alright if I come in?" Loki called. His voice could have made my heart explode from happiness. My breath caught and eyes shined in pure joy. I tried to answer but my mouth betrayed me, his soft voice taking my breath away. I cleared my throat and called back a moment later. "Well are you going to stand outside my door all day? Of course I'm in here where else would I be?" As soon as the words left my lips he came bursting through the door, with a smirk that would have normally made my blood boil. It didn't even look like whatever came to attack us even hurt him. I closed the distance between us in a matter of steps and practically jumped into his arms laughing. "I'm so glad you're safe!" I said, my voice muffled against his shirt. His scent was intoxicating, I can't believe I've never noticed it before. Loki smelled like the air after a heavy rain, mixed with the smell of freshly cut grass. It was amazing and only made me want him more. I felt his chest rumble and his arms go around me, pulling me tighter into a warm embrace. He rested his cheek on the top of my head, sighing. "Yes I am quite alright, I'm a God for Odins sake" he said smiling at me. He pulled away slightly to look me in the eyes. His eyes have definitely faded to a normal color. They showed a new vulnerability in them, where as before they were blocked from many barriers to see his true emotions. Loki must have seen my curiosity and he arched an eyebrow in question. "It's your eyes Loki... When I first met you, your eyes were the same color as your scepter. A captivating electric blue Now.. They are a faded blue. Still captivating, but not as eerily bright as before..."
Loki was speechless, his mouth would begin to form words but he would quickly close them. I felt my face flush with embarrassment but I stood my ground, waiting patiently for his answer. Loki's arms were still around my waist and mine drifted down to his chest, feeling his heart beating underneath my fingertips. He stepped toward the mirror in my room and left my side but kept a firm grip on my hand, intwining his fingers with mine. He stopped in front of the mirror, transfixed to his reflection in the mirror. "Fascinating" he whispered as he stared into his own eyes. Loki stayed there for a while and I silently stood beside him, watching him in deep thought. His face showed absolute fascination and wonder. With one last curious glance Loki turned towards me with a slight shrug. "It is rather curious isn't it? Maybe your human traits are rubbing off on me" he winked at me and I blushed, a smirk playing at my lips. Then I remembered why he left in the first place and my smile vanished. "So who was the intruder?" I asked, biting my lip. Loki paled and his eyes filled with sadness, but I couldn't understand why. "It was just a lone Frost Giant wanting to quarrel. Nothing serious don't fret, I got rid of him" he smiled but it didn't reach his saddened eyes. I knew there was more to the 'quarrel' but I didn't want to make him any more uncomfortable. "Well since I've been in here for what seems like days, why don't we get something to eat?" I pulled him towards the door as he chuckled behind me. His laugh made my insides shake and I quickly scolded myself for having such reactions to him. I must learn to control myself around him and stop feeling such pleasure from a simple laugh.
I was so wrapped up in my own thoughts that I didn't realize we had already arrived in the dining room. Loki held my chair out for me, looking at me with still the same sadness as before. I hesitantly took my seat and Langridge was by my side an instant later. I think it will always amaze me how truly fast he is. "What would you like for dinner Miss Clark? I will try to make the best meal possible for you tonight" He smiled at me but like Loki, his eyes were enveloped in sadness. Langridge inclined his head slightly to Loki and Loki nodded knowingly across from me. I realized I still hadn't answered and I said the first thing that popped into my head. "Do you think you could make a burger with fries?" Langridge was very confused and didn't understand my food choice and asked me to explain. As I'm telling Langridge a typical McDonald's meal, my eyes keep drifting back to Loki, who stared down at his hands folded on the table. As if he knew my eyes were on him he looked up, meeting my gaze. My voice faded as I took Loki's eyes in. As my eyes searched his, what I found was wild. Like a storm the waves crashed every second, bringing new sadness surfacing. Langridge cleared his throat, our moment shattering. "I think I will be able to make your meal Miss Clark, thank you for your information." I didn't have to look to know Langridge was gone from the room, a silence filling across the table and beyond. Loki was back to gazing at his hands, and I began picking at my nails. The awkwardness grew until Loki cleared his throat and stood. He walked towards me with a serious gaze, taking my breath away. His eyes were emotionless with no sadness seeping through. He stared openly at me, never leaving my eyes and as he grew closer his hand extended towards mine. "Miss Clark, may I have this dance?"
