I had woken up. I wasn't in the forest though. I was somewhere else. I looked around me trying to figure out where I was. Then it hit me. I was back home with my parents. I could feel tears run down my cheek. It was over. My life was over. I wouldn't see Zack anymore, or anyone anymore. I would be stuck in this very hot room until I die. I went up to my door, and started banging on it. Hoping someone would hear me, and let me out. I knew that wouldn't happen. Why would they let me out? They wanted me to die. I then heard a voice, a voice I have heard before.
"Stop, it's no use. You're stuck here forever, there's nothing you can do, and nothing no one else can do."
It was my mom. That's whose voice it was. I backed away from the door, and fell down to the ground. I started crying knowing I would have very little time left. And then, again, everything had gone black...
"Kendall, Kendall, wake up! Are you okay?"
My eyes had opened. Zach was right in front of me.
"What, wh-wh-where am I?"
"You're in the forest. Are you ok? Did anyone hurt you?"
"No one hurt me. I just had a weird dream."
"What was it?"
I had told him every single detail about my dream. He listened carefully, and didn't interrupt. When I had finished telling my dream he just stared at me, as if I was an alien from Mars.
"What? Why are you staring at me like that?"
"Well, Kendall, to be honest, I wouldn't say that was a dream. It sounded more like a nightmare to me."
We then both started giggling. That is the first thing he said to me, and now he's repeating it. That's why it was so funny. I had looked around again. Realizing that we weren't in the same spot.
"Um Zach. Where in the forest are we?"
"We're a little deeper into the forest this time."
"What, why? What happened to our other spot?"
"The police didn't want us living there-"
"Why? Who are they to tell us what to do?"
"Because, they wanted to build something there. And Kendall, the police have more rights then-"
"Then what? Who are they to say we can't live there! That was our home! And they don't have more rights then we do! We-"
"Kendall, yes they do. They are a part of the Government. They can do whatever they want. We have no say in it."
"Oh."
I sat there feeling upset, and stupid. I knew that the police did have a little more rights then us, but I didn't think it was by a lot. I looked around at the new surroundings. There was nothing, but trees, soil, and sticks.
"What do we do now?" I had finally asked.
"Well we could start building a place to sleep?"
"Yeah I guess. Let's get started. Do you still have the rope?"
"Yeah. I'll start the rope part if you can go get some sticks?"
"Yeah, sure."
I got up, and started collecting sticks. I was giving Zack a lot because I wasn't sure how much he would need. As I brought another bunch, he just looked up at me. Sort of surprised.
"What? You wanted these sticks, didn't you?"
"Yeah I did, it's just you're bringing a lot. I don't think I need all this."
"Well it's better to have more than enough, then not enough, right?"
"Right."
I helped him with making the bed since we had very little time until dark. Once we had finished one bed we went out to find food.
"Hey Kendall."
"Yeah?"
"Want to go out for dinner with B-Dad?"
"B-Dad? Who's that?"
"The guy who gave me the free rope. The guy you thought I was going to steal from."
"Oh him, yeah sure. Where?"
"Well we wouldn't really go anywhere. It would just be in his shop. Is that ok?"
"Yeah. Sounds great."
"Alright we should start heading over."
"Shouldn't we find some food first?"
"No it's ok. I'm sure he could give us something. Now come on let's go!"
We started walking through the woods, and ran at some points. I still wondered what we would eat? But then again I didn't really care. I just wanted something to eat. I was starving!
