Run Away

Chapter 25

"Lily dear, do you mind if Kendall shares your room with you for the night?" Mrs. Cook asked.

"No, not at all." She jumped off the couch and turned to me. "Come on I'll show you my bedroom."

I nodded. On my way out I could hear Mrs. Cook talking to Zack. "Zack you can sleep in your old room tonight. You can redecorate your room tomorrow."

I slowed down. I could hear Zack's footsteps coming closer.
"What are you doing?" Lily asked.
"I'm waiting for Zack." I looked behind me, Zack would be here soon.
"We don't have time to wait for him. You can see Zack tomorrow, come on." She grabbed my wrist, and dragged me to her bedroom. "You can sleep in that bed," She pointed to the single bed to her right. "If you need to use the bathroom it's next door."
I nodded taking it all in. "I'm just going to- oh." I looked down at my empty hands.
"What is it?"
"I left my bag downstairs. I'll be back."
As I left I heard Lily call out, "Kay, but be quick."
I ran down the stairs, to the living room.
"Is everything alright?" I turned around, startled. It was just Mr. Cook.
"Yeah I'm just looking for my bag. I think I left it here."
"I saw it by the entrance."
"Thanks." I managed a small smile, and a wave as I passed Mr. Cook to the entrance.
Once I was there I had noticed that my bag was still by the front door. I must've dropped it there when I shook Lily's hand. I grabbed my bag, and left to go back upstairs.
"Kendall." I heard someone whisper when I was at the top of the stairs. I looked beside me, and saw Zack was there. I took a step closer to him.
"What is it?" I whispered back.
"I think I found this houses' Secret Room. I want you to meet me down there."
"But Lily is expecting me to be back already."
"Just tell her you're going to have a shower. Lock the door, run the water, and right beside the shower should be the Secret Door. Got it?" I was about to say something, but before I could Zack spoke. "Good, see you down there."
"But - Zack -" He was gone, and I heard his door slam. I sighed, and walked back to Lily's room.
"What took you so long?" Lily asked when I was at the door.
"Sorry I, uh, got lost."
"Oh. Well I see you found your bag."
"Uh yeah, I did. I left it by the front door." I paused for a second. Lily didn't seem to notice, it looked like she was really into her magazine. "Look I'm going to go have a shower."
"Okay. Do you want me to leave the light on?" This time she looked up into my eyes.
"Uh no it's fine. Don't worry about me, I usually take a while in the shower."
"Okay." And before I knew it she was right back into her magazine.
I left the room to the bathroom. I locked the door behind me, and started the shower water. I placed the bag down, and started tapping on the wall. Once I thought I found the spot I tapped the top, middle, left, top, bottom, bottom, middle, and top, just like Zack said. Then I whispered "Aperi Mihi Ostium." I took a step back, and grabbed my bag. The door slowly opened. I bent down, quickly walking in, and making sure I closed the door behind me.
After I walked down a flight of stairs, I found Zack.
"Oh good you're here!" He said when he saw me.
"Yes I am. What did you want to see me for?"
I was down standing right in front of Zack. I placed my bag on the floor, waiting for him to speak.
"I have an idea." He paused for a moment, and took a deep breath. "If my parents were able to find us, then who says your parents won't be able to."
"Yeah so-"
"So, if we know when your parents are coming we can hide in here. We could even run away - again - if we really wanted to."
"But what if we don't know when my parents are going to come and find me?"
"Kendall have you even met my parents? They are awful on keeping secrets! I'm sure we'll find out soon enough for us to run away."
"But let's just say we don't know, and I end up living with them again. Then what will we do?" My voice became quiet. "I'm scared Zack. I can't go back there."
He took a deep breath again. I could tell he was thinking. He usually took deep breaths whenever he was deep in thought. It was only a minute later when he spoke again. "Well if there's a Secret Door in Mr. Felton's house, and our house, there's more than likely one in your house. Now Kendall do you remember anything unusual about your house?"
I thought for a few seconds. The answer suddenly became obvious, as if he was asking what my favourite colour was.
"Yes." I answered. "Yes, there was. I remember in my room, they boarded up a small section of the wall."
"Perfect!"
"Zack how is that perfect? The Secret Door is probably behind where they boarded it up."
"Or the Secret Door could be beside it." When I looked at him confused he continued. "Look they probably found the door by accident one day, so they boarded up where they thought it was."
"Are you saying they might not have boarded up the right spot?"
"That's exactly my point. It's just an idea, I could be wrong, but it's most certainly worth trying." A smile appeared on our faces, but only for a few seconds. Zack looked back at his watch, then back at me. "It's getting late. We should get back before anyone notices."
I nodded my head and grabbed my bag.
"See you tomorrow." Zack said on his way out.
"See you." I replied.
I ran up the stairs, and into the bathroom. I quickly turned off the shower, and got changed into my pyjamas. I stood in the bathroom for about another 10 minutes before leaving. When I did I unlocked the door, turning off the lights, and walked out into the hall. I found my way back to Lily's room. I noticed the lights were off, and she was asleep. I sighed in relief. I crept into her room, placing my bag beside my bed. I laid down, tucking myself under the blankets. I rolled to my right side, and fell asleep shortly afterwards.
