Riley's pov

"So how's your arm feeling" I asked Hunter as I redid his bandages. " Better then it used to. " he replied,his slight country accent ran through the silent building.

I smiled " well that's good.You can go back to work just don't over work your arm. "

"But then I can't go hunting."

I looked at him with a serious face.
"I'm positive you can find something else to do."

" Like what? "

"I don't know, go make a trap to catch food or something."
Hunter shook his head " The builders make the traps, the hunters just reset them. "

"Well just don't do anything stupid then."
Hunter nodded.After I finish with his bandages he stood up " Thanks Riley"
I shrugged " No problem. "

Hunter left leaving me alone in the hospital.

I sat down and sighed.Waiting for someone else to come in.
I bounced my foot and clicked my tongue.
No one came in.

I stood up and walked out of the room into the kitchen.Then into a small laundry room with other cleaning supplies.

I grabbed a sponge and a bucket and headed out the door.

I started walking towards the backwoods, admiring the different colors of leaves the trees had.Some had already fallen.

The breeze came and made me shiver.
It only reminded me that it was going to get colder.

I had been walking for a few minutes before I found what I was looking for.
The river.

The river was about ten feet wide and about knee deep.I filled the bucket with water, picked it up and started to trudge back to the hospital.

"Why are you so heavy!?"
I complained to the bucket.I hadn't even made it half way back and my arms were killing me.

"Need help?"

I let out a small yelp and turned around .
Mike and Zach both stood there grinning like Cheshire cat.

"You guys scared me!"

Mike held his hands up in defence
"You're too jumpy, relax a bit."

I rolled my eyes " Excuse me if I'm too jumpy in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. "

Zach smiled " You're excused. So do you need help or not. "

I shook my head " I can handle it. "
And I went to walk off only to almost drop the bucket before Mike caught.

He took it from my hands " Yeah I'll carry it now. "

"Whatever." I said quietly .

"So what are we doing with a bucket?"
Zach asked.

"I was going to clean up the hospital, you know since one of the rooms is still covered in blood."

I was talking about Emma's delivery room.
No one had cleaned the blood yet and it was starting to smell.

Zach and Mike walked back with me to the hospital.They dropped the bucket off at the second floor.

"Sure you don't want help cleaning?"
Mike asked for the third time.

"Yes Mike I'm sure."

" need anything else? " Zach asked has he handed me a sponge.I nodded " If you see Kirsten tell her hi for me. "

They nodded and left.

I grabbed the bucket and opened the door.
The room looked terrible.Things had been thrown around, vases were shattered on the ground , a table had one of its legs broken off, and there was blood on the walls and sheets.

I walked over to the glass that was scattered on the floor and started picking pieces up.

I  had almost finished other than there were still a few blood stains.I heard footsteps come up the stairs and I froze.

"Riley you up there?" Kiki's voice traveled through the hall.

" I'm right here. " I said walking out the room and waving.

"Mike told me you were cleaning up the hospital and I wanted to help."

I nodded " yeah I'm almost done with the room anyways so I probably won't need that much help. "

She shrugged " A little bit of help is better then none. "

Me and Kirsten cleaned up the rest of the blood except for this one little stain.
"Just did already!" Kiki screamed at it.
We had both been scrubbing at it for who knows how long.

When we both got tired we just decided to move the bed over it so you couldn't see it.

We both went down stairs and sat in the living room area.

"So how was your day?" I asked

" It was good.I caught a rabbit which I think we are having for dinner. I also taught Axel how to set a trap. "

I raised my eyebrows
" Oh really. "

" He is really bad at following instructions and always did something wrong. Honestly I don't know how he kept getting it wrong. "

" Isn't Axel a builder? " I asked.
She nodded " yeah why would that matter? "

I smiled remembering what Hunter had said earlier.
"It doesn't , I just thought that the builders were busy repairing something today."

Kiki looked at me strange " Whatever you say. "

"Come on Kirsten let's see if dinners ready."

The sun started setting and we all sat at the center enjoying rabbit that the hunters caught.

At my table was kirsten, Axel, me , and Justin.
I had never really talked to just in But over time we started to get along pretty well.
He was a hunter and a scavenger so he also worked with Kiki.

They were talking about how the weather was changing and needing to get better supplies.

I wasn't listening to much because I was focused on the path leading from the gate.
They said it takes usually two days for the messengers to get back and today was the second day.

I shouldn't be worried but I can't help it.
Allison was a handful and Jordan might have feed her to the zombies just because she was annoying him.I know I have been tempted to do that before.

"Riley you've barely touched your rabbit."
Kiki said knocking me back into the real world.
"Oh yeah." I said and started eating.

"Girl you can relax." Justin said beside me
" nothings happened to them.In a short amount of time they will be strolling down that path and things will be okay. "

" What happens if they don't make it back before dark. " Kirsten asked this time.

"Jordan knows where to go and what to do." Axel said calmly " I promise you they will be okay. "

We both nodded.

"Guess who's back!"
Everyone's head flipped towards the noise.
Ally, Jordan , and peanut came walking on the path and everyone got up to greet them.

Me and Kirsten hugged ally and she awkwardly hugged back.
Jordan was talking to Lila in a hushed whisper.

This made me curious.Lila walked over to us and smiled " Nice to see you back unharmed. "

"Tell that to my ears, do you know how loud this guy snores."

Jordan punched her in the arm " not funny. "
"Never said it was going to be funny."

"So what did you see, anything new?"
Kirsten asked.For a brief second Ally looked almost frightened.

She shook her head " Nope. Just zombies.
Come on guys I'm tired. "

Lila grabbed Allison's arm has we started walking away. " I would like to talk to you in the morning if that's alright. "

Ally nodded.

I crossed my arms.Something wasn't right.
There's something out there.Something they don't want the rest of us to know.

And I'm going to find out what it is.
