18-Waking up

Allison pov

It was loud.The ringing in my ears was loud.I could hear my heart beating.
I could hear the gears in my head turning.
I could hear the flies Buzz.I could hear the footsteps get closer.

Footsteps.My heart skipped a beat.Where am i ?What am I doing?Where's Kiki?
Where's Riley?

I shoot up. "That was a mistake." I said in pain has my shoulder moved to much which caused it to hurt.I looked at it.It was bandaged and had dried blood coated in it.
'oh yeah'I thought ' zombie apocalypse,shoulder got hurt,all that crap.'

"That looked like it hurt." A voice that I didn't recognize interrupted my thoughts.
I looked up and saw a short lady standing in front of me.She looked nice.Another thing I noticed was that she was definitely pregnant.

"Not to be rude,but who are you,and do I need to kill you?" The lady looked shocked .
"Why on earth would you need to kill me!?"

I shrugged" I don't know,maybe you are one of those people who kidnap people and kill them if they are weak.Which I'm not weak by the way "

The lady rolled her eyes"Do you honestly believe those stupid radio people that said that.Good Heavens child,people are not that cruel. "

I looked down not knowing what to say.
The lady sighed "I think we got off on the wrong foot.My name is Emma.What's yours?"

Looking up i said"Allison. "The lady smiled "Well Allison if you don't mind I need to change those bandages."

I sat there in silence has she cleaned my shoulder.After she was finished she handed me new clothes and turned around. "So Allison do you mind if I ask you some questions?"

"You just asked one."

Emma shook her head "please don't be one of those kids."

I smiled "yeah you can ask a few. Also I'm done changing so you can turn around."

She took her time asking me questions.
Some were easy to answer.

"Whats your favorite color?"

"Black and gold. "

"Favorite movie?"

" rocket man. "

"Favorite food?"

" Steak. "

"Birthday? "

"September 1st."

Some were difficult to answer.

"What was your family like?"

I hesitated.
"My dad.My dad was nice,too nice.He couldn't hurt a fly even if he wanted to.
My mom was mean,strict,and had way to many rules.They balanced each other out perfectly.

But one day for some reason,my dad left.
Never came back.Without my dad there, my mom went crazy.She became meaner and more strict.I thought that maybe my dad would come back and it would be fine."

The room was quiet has i continued

"But then we all learned that my dad had been killed in an accident.My mom snapped.She suddenly stopped being my mom,and started being just another human in the world."

Emma stood there and then hugged me.
She sat there with me and didn't say anything,all she did was hug me and rub my back.

"Why?" I asked.She stopped hugging me and have me a confused look. "Why do you care?"

Emma smiled"I have a beautiful little girl named phoebe.I could never imagine leaving her without a mother or father. "

Emma looked into my eyes"Child you act tough but in the inside you want someone to love you.Someone like a mother.
You act invincible,but in reality you know,that one thing,could send you into an ocean of tears that you have been holding back since you were tiny. "

'when did it get this emotional and deep?'

"What was that about?"

" I was trying to give you a emotional speech that would make you realize how you felt on the inside. "

I nodded my head"cooool,I think. "

"Hey!you're awake!" Jordan said has he popped his head in the door.His black hair was swept to the side.

I smiled"Hey Jordan,sorry to pass out on you. "

He shrugged "Life happens,anyway"He turned to Emma" They just got back if you want to see phoebe. "

Emma smiled and nodded,then waving goodbye she left the room leaving me and Jordan. "Emma!If you see Riley and Kirsten,tell them I'm awake and want to see them!" I heard a faint ok and then it was silent .

"So,how is your shoulder?"

" Hurts,but it's better then being a zombo. "

"A what?".   

" A zombo.A zombie,never heard someone say zombo. "

He shook his head.
"Glad you're better,now you can start working."

" Really!I almost bleed out and you are making me work. "

Jordan smiled "yep."

" Jordan! "I heard a faint voice call.I heard footsteps outside the door before a guy stepped in"we got to go greet the scavengers." The guy looked at me"oh you're awake!My name's Axel. "

I nodded "Allison."

" Or ally for short. "Jordan said.

Jordan was the first person to call me ally and live.Everyone called me that after so I just got used to it.

" see you later ally gator! "Jordan said walking out the door." Bye bye French fry! "

Soon after Jordan and axel left I finally got to see Riley and Kiki again.They explained the jobs and rules the best they could.Riley secretly told me that she thought Kirsten had a crush on axel.An evil smile appeared on our faces. "Why are you smiling like that?"

Me and Riley looked at each other"No reason. "We replied in unison.

After talking for a little bit it as time to go to bed.Riley and Kiki went to the house they were staying at,while I stayed at the hospital.

While drifting off i thought about what Emma said.I laughed.I was not broken on the inside or the out.I have never wanted to have a loving mother.Never wanted a mother who would braid my hair,who would go shopping with me,who would bake and cook with me,who would be there when I was upset telling me "it's okay to cry." ,a mother who didn't scream at me for being weak for showing emotions.
No.I never wanted a loving mother.

I stared at the ceiling.

Why didn't she love me?
Why did I ,all of a sudden,want someone to hug me and tell me they loved me.

My breath got shakey.

Stop it.Stop being weak.

She'll love you if you're not weak.
She'll love you if you stay strong.

That's how love works right.

                Why doesn't she love me?
