The next morning I wake up to the news that there's no school. Of course I think. Remembering my plan to practice, I shower and get dressed. I leave a note for my family saying that I went out on the kitchen table and leave the house, heading around the corner to Tuley.

I find a shady spot underneath a tree and, once I look around to make sure no one else is in sight, I put my palm on the grass and let myself fall into the shadowy abyss.

I feel the familiarity of heat and cold and it doesn't take long before I'm in the shadow realm. I feel the wisps of shadow strands all around me. I let my hands glide on some of them, catching bits and pieces of emotions tangled with people's voices.

Fear, What if I'm next? Oh God I'm going to die! I don't want to die!. Annoyance, Stupid cops, why don't they do something, it can't be that hard. Curiosity, I wonder when the next one will happen. Anticipation mixed with joy, Soon my love, only a couple more lambs and we will be together.

I snatch my hand away and quickly open my eyes to look at the strand I just touched.  It's black and wispy as all of them are but it's different from it's kind. The others around it are also black and wispy but they give off this energy, this sort of vibe or usual human feelings. Sadness, pride, loss etc.

But this strand? This strand gives off the vibe of belonging to someone dangerous. Someone who can do some harm. Someone whose not in touch with humanity or loss that touch. I decide that that's enough practice for today and start to emerge from the shadow realm.

When I open my eyes, I see leaves on skinny tree branches and the sky. I sit up and almost immediately Tress starts acting wildly. She's dancing and flailing all about in a panic. I place my hand on top of hers in order to calm her. "I'm fine. Honest. Just a little woozy".

She shakes her head and leaves me be.

I'm about to begin practicing again when I notice someone walking towards me.

My mouth turns into a frown as I see who it is.

There goes my practice....
