Chapter 10

"Elizabeth can I ask you something?"

"What is it."

"Where are your parents?"

I was shocked at first but answered quickly. "I don't know I'm an orphan as far as I know I was an infant when I was brought to the orphanage. The only thing I have of my parents is this ring. It took a long time for me to get adopted I always wondered why. Then I was adopted by a woman named Alexa who ran the orphanage when I was 6, as I got older I saw I didn't look like the other kids, back then I had blonde hair and blue eyes which is normal. But my face wasn't shaped the same as there's. I didn't look like I was from Ru'an and they were weary of me. I had a rebellious streak as well because of that treatment. But adoptive mother knew I was a good kid and always reminded me that, when I was a kid however, she past away when I was 14 from a long term illness that same year I joined the guard academy when I turned 15." That's all they need to know.

She looked shocked
"You were so young.."

Then Laurance spoke up.
"Me and cadenza were both orphans as well then we got adopted by Hayden."

"It wasn't that difficult but when I was younger I wondered why know one did but as I got older I understood. I don't blame them either but I wasn't the perfect child I had some outbursts of rage if someone messed with me or my friends but I was mostly a good kid. Laurance I don't know if you remember this but I met you once."

"Hm what when?"

"It was a long time ago but I remember you had a wyverin with you that you let me and the other kids take turns on it."

"Elizabeth how did you recognize him. Back then he had orange hair and green eyes?" Aphmau said with surprise.

"Well I know stories about all of you it's not hard to put to and to together."

"That makes sense."

"But Laurance can I ask what happened to you? You don't just change hair color and eye color for no reason."

"Its complicated..." Laurance said quietly. "I'm going to go upstairs to pack everything."

I could tell in his eyes that there was pain in them I shouldn't have asked him. I tilted my head down a bit.

Aphmau said in a quiet voice. "It's alright Elizabeth we all have things in are closet that we would rather forget about."

"Yeah.. I'm going up to pack too I'll talk to you guys after I'm done."

I walked upstairs to the room I was staying in. When I entered the room I couldn't help but lean my head against the door. We all have things we wouldn't want to talk about.

3 hours later~

I finished packing and headed down stairs and we set off to New Meteli Laurance was acting normal again and I could talk to him but he still kept his distance. In the silence Aphmau road her horse up to mine.

"Elizabeth I'd like to know more about you I mean I know you grew up in chocolate village and were a head guard but.  I want to know what do you like to do in your free time?"

"Ha I haven't done it in so long when I was younger I loved to draw.  I used to help paint the town with these murals. Many of my friends would come up to me asking me to draw them with their families obviously I got compensated for it but I really enjoyed it. When I started taking becoming a guard more seriously i stopped drawing for a long time but after I came back to my village after becoming a guard I started drawing again in my free time."

"That's amazing maybe one day I could see some of your drawings I've always loved art."

I smiled. "Of course but I need the proper tools I haven't drawn in a really long time so I'm probably rusty."

"I bet they're beautiful."

"Thank you."

"We should be arriving in New Meteli soon."

30 minutes later~

We've entered the town and I couldn't be more anxious I haven't been around this many people in a long time. I couldn't help but feel many eyes on me as I went through the town to cadenzas home. As we got off are horses I went up to my horse face a stroked him gently he must be really tired.
"Here you that's a good boy."
I said as I gave him the apple I was holding. I couldn't help but feel someone staring at me from behind as I continued feeding the horse. I turned around to see no one around strange. I walked into the house to see everyone lounging around on the couches tired from the trip. I decided to sit down next to Laurance since it was the only seat not taken. Cadenza then started speaking "you guys are welcome to stay here for the night Laurance and Garroth your sleeping in the same room. Aphmau you and Elizabeth will share the same room with Lilith and Alena.. wait hold on oh no we don't have enough beds in that room!"

"It's alright can't I sleep down here I don't mind sleeping on the couch."

"But Elizabeth this isn't a way to treat a guest I'm so sorry!"

"Cadenza I really don't mind." Sleeping in the same room with Aphmau could cause problems I don't want to wake her up if I have a nightmare. Although I know they're more than that.

"Alright well I'll have my people prepare you guys some good food just sit tight oh if you guys want to your free to roam the town just come back soon alright." I got up from my seat I can't wait to look around at the town. Laurance got up as well.

"I'll show you around Elizabeth there's this art shop I'm sure you'll enjoy."

"Alright lets go."

As they wondered the town a man could be seen always keeping an eye on Elizabeth with a expression of sadness written on his face.
