John's POV

Ewww! Nobody likes Jefferson! Alexander's face! He hates him!

I was silently standing next to Peggy and Maria. Jefferson was making this whole speech about how he felt when he came back from France. Nobody really seemed to care except for Madison. The way he looked at Jefferson, you could tell that he loved him. Jefferson was probably too blind to see it.( I just wrote a whole paragraph and it deleted) Alexander looked pissed. He was super cute when he was mad though. I was kind of sad that he was marrying Eliza. I could tell that she loved him and he loved her. I wasn't going to get in the way of that. This party was also Eliza's rehearsal party. Angelica was leaving for London tomorrow because she married this guy named John Church. She was going to say her maid of honor speech tonight. I was staring at Alex when Washington spoke up.

" Ladies and gentlemen! You could have been anywhere in the world tonight, but you're here with us in New York City. Are you ready for a cabinet meeting? The issue on the table: Secretary Hamilton's plan to assume state debt and establish a national bank. Secretary Jefferson, you have the floor sir!" Washington said.

Jefferson said," Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. We fought for these ideals. We shouldn't settle for less. These are wise words, enterprising men quote em. Don't act surprised you guys cuz I wrote em. But Hamilton forgets. His plan would help the government assume state's debts. Now place your bets as to who that benifits. The very seat of government where Hamilton sits-"
Alexander cut him off by saying," Not true!"

Jefferson interrupted Alex by saying," Ooh! If the shoe fits, wear it. If New York's in debt, why should Virginia bare it? Uh, our debts are paid I'm afraid. Don't tax the south cuz we got it made in the shade. In Virginia we plant seeds in the ground. We create, you just want to move our money around. This financial plan is an outrageous demand and it's too many damn pages for any man to understand. Stand with me in the land of the free. Pray to God we never see Hamilton's candidacy. Look! When Britain taxed our tea, we got frisky. Imagine what gon' happen when you try to tax our whiskey!" He finished.
I could see Alex getting madder by the second.
This is going to be fun!

Alexander's POV

Jefferson finished and Washington said something that I didn't quite hear. I took a deep breath.

I started, " Thomas! That was a real nice declaration. Welcome to the present, we're running a real nation. Would you like to join us, or stay mellow doing whatever the hell it is you do in Monticello? If we assume the debts, the union gets a new line of credit, a financial diuretic. How do you not get it? If we're congressive and competitive, the union gets a boost. You'd rather give it a sedative. A civics lesson from a slaver. 'Hey neighbor'! Our debts are paid cuz we don't pay for labor. ' We plant seeds in the south, we create!' Yeah keep ranting, we know who's really doing the planting. And another thing Mr. Age of Enlightenment, don't lecture me about the war you didn't fight in it! You think I'm frightened of you man? We almost died in a trench. While you were off getting high with the French! Thomas Jefferson, always hesitant with the president. Reticent, there isn't a plan he doesn't jettison. Madison, you mad as a hatter. Son, take your medicine! Damn you're in worse shape than the national debt is in. Sittin' there useless as two shits. Hey! Turn around, bend over. I'll show you where my shoe fits!" I yelled.
Everyone started laughing and cheering for me. I was so happy. Jefferson and Madison came over and said something to me. I ignored them. Washington pulled me aside to talk to him. I ignored him to.
All of my friends came up to me and started telling me about Jefferson's face when I talked about Madison.
" Hey, Alex and John? Can you get me some pain medicine? My head hurts." Laf asked.
John and I nodded and headed out the door. We drove to the store while talking about how mad Jefferson was.
" There are zero places for me to park." John said.
" Just... park by those trees!" I said pointing to the trees.
" Okay." John said as he parked the car.
We ran in the store and grabbed Lafayette's medicine. Everyone gave us weird looks because of our outfits. We shrugged it off and walked back to the car. John stopped in the middle of the parking lot.
" The car is so hidden! I can't see it." He said.
" It's by the trees, remember?" I said looking at him.
" Oh yeah!" He started laughing and I did too.
We got into the car and stopped laughing. We stared at each other in the eyes. John started to lean in and I did too. His lips slowly touched mine. We pulled away after a while and I opened my eyes to look at him. I then smashed my lips into his. We continued to kiss until I swung my leg over to his side. I was sitting on him as we were making out. I bit onto his lip and held it between my teeth as I pushed a single curl out of his face. He pulled away.
" No! We can't! Alex, you're going to marry Eliza in two months! You pretty much just cheated on her!" He yelled.
I sat back in my seat and tears began to slowly come out of my eyes. I felt so guilty.
He sighed.
" Listen I won't tell her as long as you promise me to never speak of this again." He said looking at me.
I nodded while still looking at the floor. He turned the car on and we began to drive.
