Chapter 31

John's POV

I woke up this morning to see Alexander laying next to me. He's amazing. I kissed his forehead and got up slowly, careful not to wake him. I went downstairs to see my mother sitting at the table with a book.
" Good morning, mom. What are you reading?" I asked and sat down next to her.
" Good morning, John. And I'm reading a book called The Hunger Games." She said.
" That's a really good book." I said.
She closed her book.
" It is. I really like it." She said.
Just then, Alexander came downstairs and sat next to me.
" Good morning ,Alexander." I said.
" Good morning, John."
Alexander and my mother began to talk about random stuff.
" John. Can you go to the store to get stuff for breakfast?" My mom asked me.
" Yeah. Alex, do you want to come with me?" I asked him while grabbing my keys and coat.
" Yeah. I can help you with the groceries." He said and followed me out the door.(he has his coat tooBTW)
We got in the car and started driving to the store.
" John, it's two days until Christmas. Just two!" Alex told me.
" I know, babe. Time flies." I said.
" I know. You're family is so nice and welcoming. I don't know why you were so nervous." He said and looked at me.
" I wasn't nervous about them...I'm nervous about Martha." I said and parked the car.
" Oh. Is she the one that I haven't met yet?" He asked me.
" Yeah. She probably won't be home until 3:00 though." I said
" Ok. That gives me time to calm down a little." Alex said while messing with his gloves.
I grabbed his chin carefully and tilted his head up to look at me.
" You'll be okay. She's really nice. You two are alike. She'll love you." I said and kissed him.
He smiled and we got out of the car and went into the store.
" What do we need to get?" Alex asked me while looking at the shelves.
" We need pancake mix, bacon, milk, orange juice, and eggs." I said while looking at the signs in the store.( you guys know what I'm talking about. Right?)
" Okay." Alex said.
" We should get the pancake mix first because it's closer." I said while turning the shopping cart.
" Okay. We need bread too, babe." He said while grabbing the pancake mix and backing up.
I laughed a little.
" What are you backing up for?" I asked while smiling. ( I want a healthy relationship sooo bad!😩)
He winked at me and then threw the pancake mix into the basket like he was shooting a basketball.
" 2 pointssssss!!" He said while walking back over to me.
" You are so cute." I said while holding his hand. He smiled at me and we kept walking.
We were just shopping for the stuff that we need when I heard someone call my name. ( say my name, say my name, if no one is around you say baby I love you... I'll stop now)
" John?" Someone said.
I turned around to see a girl in a blue shirt and black coat with black jeans.
" Veronica." I said while Alex and I walked up to her. I let go of Alexander's hand and hugged her.
" It's good to see you." She said.
We pulled apart.
" Its good to see you too." I said.
" How are you doing? How is college in New York?" She asked.
" I'm doing good. College is good, a lot to handle, but good. Besides, I met my boyfriend, Alexander, at college." I said while looking at Alex and smiling.
" I'm happy for you, John." Veronica said with a smile.
" How are you?" I asked her.
" I'm good. I still talk to Martha." Veronica said.
" That's good. How is Martha doing?" I asked.
" She's good. She's actually friends while Heather McNamara now." Veronica said.
" Really? I always liked Heather McNamara. She was nicer than Duke and Chandler." I said.
" Yeah. Heather Chandler has changed now. She's still gorgeous but her personality changed. She's more caring, loving, kind. She's a good person now. She's definitely changed her whole life around." Veronica said while smiling.(😏)
" Really? She was always so evil." I said.
" Yep. She talks about you. She always says stuff like how she regrets being mean and how she wishes she could apologize to you. She's just afraid that you won't accept her apology." Veronica said.
" I would love to talk to her again while I'm here in South Carolina." I said.
" Well that's a coincidence, speaking of the fact that I just saw her turn down the next isle." Veronica said and we both laughed.
" I'll go talk to her. It was nice seeing you again." I said to Veronica.
" It was nice seeing you too." She said and we went our separate ways.
" She seems cool." Alex said.
" She is. She changed for a bit when she met this guy though." I said.
" I hate how people can do that sometimes. They can change who you are as a person and they don't think twice about it. They manipulate you into doing things. They break your heart into a million pieces and leave you to pick them up for yourself. They make you feel like nothing but no matter how hard you try, you always go back to them. They can change you from being this nice, amazing, caring, happy person to a horrible, uncaring, evil, mean, furious person." Alex said. ( In the words of your loving author who was unfortunate to experience this.)
" Babe, are you okay?" I asked him while hugging him.
" Yeah. I just had a friend back in the Caribbean who did the same thing to me." Alex said and hugged me tighter.
We let go and he smiled at me.
" Let's go talk to that Heather person." Alex giggled which made me chuckle.
We walked into the isle and Heather looked up at me.
" Oh um, hi John." She said and nervously stood up.
" Hello Heather." I said to her.
" How are you?" She asked me.
" I'm good. You?" I asked her.
" I'm good. Listen, I'm really sorry for the way I treated you in high school. It's just that I was so jealous of you. You had this big, happy, and accepting family. I didn't have that. I was an only child, my parents were homophobic. I'm just, I'm really sorry." She said. She looked like she was about to cry.
So, I hugged her.
" It's okay. I didn't know. I'm sorry about your family. I accept your apology." I said.
" Thank you John." She said as we pulled away.
Alex and I finished getting the groceries and went back to the house. We walked in and put the groceries on the table. My mom, Alex, and I started cooking when we heard the front door open. We heard footsteps walk into the kitchen and stop. I smirked and turned around with my arms open. Martha ran and jumped into my arms. She's much older than I remember. She's taller now. She's my best friend. We tell each other everything. I love my sister.
" John! You're home." She said.
" Yep. I'm home!" I said while laughing and hugging her.
