Chapter 15

Alexander's POV(💙)

We drove back to the Schuyler mansion in silence. We walked in and went down the hallway to the ballroom. John and I found Lafayette and gave him his medicine. Eliza came up to me just as John was walking away and kissed my cheek.
"Hey!" She said.
"Hey!" I replied.
"You're just in time for Angelica's speech!" She said while turning to the balcony( the ballroom is brown and gold but it looks like the Phantom of the Opera ballroom)
On the balcony stood Laurens.
"Alright,alright. That's what I'm talking about! Now, everyone, give it up for the maid of honor! Angelica Schuyler!" He said and then moved out the way for Angelica.
Music started to play and Angelica began to sing.
"A toast to the groom! To the bride! From your sister! Who is always by your side! To your union! And the hopes that you provide! May you always be satisfied!" She sang.
Then something happened. Her expression went from happy to emotionless to sad. It was like she was remembering something. She slowly moved her hand down and she stared at the floor. Eliza and I were about to go see what was wrong when she started to sing again.
"Rewind! I remember that night. I just might regret that night for the rest of my days! I remember those soldier boys tripping over themselves to win our praise. I remember that dreamlike candlelight like a dream that you can't quite place! But Alexander, I'll never forget the first time I saw your face! I have never been the same! Intelligent eyes in a hunger pang frame and when you said hi, I forgot my dang name! Set my heart aflame. Every part aflame. This is not a game! ' You strike me as a woman who has never been satisfied.'...' I'm sure I don't know what you mean! You forget yourself!'...' You're like me! I'm never satisfied!'...' Is that right?'...' I've never been satisfied!'...' My name is Angelica Schuyler!'...' Alexander Hamilton'...' Unimportant there's a million thing I haven't done........." She continued to sing.
I just stood there shocked.

Eliza's POV

I couldn't believe it! She loved him. I stood there silently crying while listening to my sister sing so beautifully. Then she sang something that made me sob.
She sang" I know my sister like I know my own mind! You will never find anyone as trusting or as kind! If I tell her that I love him, she'd be silently resigned! He'd be mine! She would say ' I'm fine'! She'd be lying! But when I fantasize at night, it's Alexander's eyes! As I romanticize what might have been if I hadn't sized him up quickly! At least my dear Eliza's his wife! At least I keep his eyes in my life!"
She looked up again and wiped away her tears. She looked scared. I don't think she meant to say that out loud.
" I'm so sorry! I just ruined everything! I'm really sorry!" She said as she ran to her room.
I looked at Alexander.
"You stay here. It's better if I talk to her." I said and hurriedly ran after my sister.

Laurens POV

Angelica ran off. I hadn't realized I was crying because I felt the same way. It was like Angelica was telling the story of both of our feelings. When I heard that Alexander was getting married to Eliza, I went to Laf and Herc's dorm. I just sobbed. The entire night was me sobbing and Laf cuddling me along with Herc. I knew that I could never have him. I mean he wouldn't want me. The thing that happened in the car was a heat of the moment thing. It didn't mean anything to him. I wanted the moment to last forever. Then I remembered Eliza. I didn't want to hurt her. I guess that Angelica did the same thing. The truth is: Eliza is sweet and caring. Nobody can hurt her and if they do then they have made the biggest mistake in their life. So here I am, sobbing in the middle of the ballroom.

Angelica's POV

I ran off to my room. I was packing and sobbing and yelling at myself. I didn't even notice when Eliza came in.
"Hey." She said while slowly closing the door.
I ran to her and hugged her and cried into her shoulder.
"I'm so sorry." I whispered.
"Shhhh. It's okay." She said rubbing my back.
I pulled away.
" I'm a horrible sister." I said( I just remembered that I made Theodosia the maid of honor🤦🏼‍♀️😂oh well. Forget I said that.)
"No. You are not. You are the best sister. You gave up your happiness for me." Eliza said holding my hands.
" Why are you packing?" She asked looking at my bag.
" I'm leaving for London in an hour remember?" I said.
" Oh yeah! Well, I'm going to miss you." She said hugging me.
" I'm going to miss you too!" I said returning the hug.
" I should go tell everyone else goodbye. I'm leaving because my flight leaves in an hour." I said laughing.
Eliza laughed too.
" Ok. Call me or write me if you need anything!" She said.
"Will do!" I called walking out the door.
I closed the door and stood there. That was the first time I had ever had an actual conversation with Eliza.
I threw away my happiness for her and I barely knew her. Huh! Guess I am a good sister!

Alexander's POV

Everyone was leaving. John and I were walking out the door when Jefferson, Madison, and Burr called me over. I told John that I would be out soon and walked over to them. As I walked up, they all gave me evil smirks.
" What?" I asked clearly annoyed.
Madison pointed to Maria.
" We know." They all said and walked away.
What have I gotten myself into?
