John's POV

Yep! I read it! How could he be so stupid?!?! And to think that I actually loved him!!!

I set my phone down on the nightstand. Alexander was getting ready for the party tonight. I was already dressed as usual.
" John! Let's go!" He screamed from the front door.
" Ok!" I shouted back as I stood up.
We left the dorm. I couldn't look at him. The sight of him made me want to cry. I guess he noticed that.
" John. Are you okay?" He asked as I drove to the Schuyler mansion.
" Yeah. Just allergies. Damn pollen." I said which made him laugh.
We finally made it to the mansion. We walked in and Lafayette looked at him, scoffed, and looked away. Hercules just shook his head. Maria and Peggy came downstairs. As soon as Maria saw him, she burst into tears ( kinda like me when I read that comment😂😁) and ran away. Peggy looked like she wanted to punch him and then ran after Maria. Eliza went to the balcony, looked around and then saw Alexander. She just stared emotionless and then turned around and went back to her room.
Everyone continued to talk and dance. Then the SMFDR walked in the building.

Alexander's POV

I'm pretty sure I just lost all of my friends. At least I still have John.

I was trying to hold back tears when I saw the SMFDR walk up the stairs and onto the balcony. Thomas cleared his throat and held up 95 pages. My pamphlet.
" The Reynolds Pamphlet. Have you read this? Alexander Hamilton had a torrid affair and he wrote it down right there." He said.
" HIGHLIGHTS!" Madison shouted.
" The charge against me is a connection with one James Reynolds. For purposes of improper speculation. My real crime is an amorous connection with his wife. For a considerable time with his knowing consent. I had frequent meetings with her, most of them at my own dorm. With Mr. Laurens with our friends being absent on a visit to the Schuyler's." He continued.
I could hear ' boo' all around the crowd. Everyone formed a large circle around me in the middle of the ballroom. It was as if they didn't want to touch me. I felt horrible.
" Well he's never gonna be president now. He's never going be president now. Never gonna be president." Thomas said and then started laughing.
I heard the double doors behind me open. I heard gasps.
" I came as soon as I heard!" I know that voice.
I slowly turned around.
Angelica Schuyler.
" All the way from London? Damn!" Thomas said.
" Angelica " I said stepping closer to her.
" Alexander..." she said with a welcoming smile.
" Congratulations. You have invented a new kind of stupid. A damage you can never undo, kind of stupid. An open all the cages in the zoo kind of stupid. Truly, you didn't think this through? Kinda stupid! Let's review. You took a rumor a few maybe two people knew and refuted it by sharing an affair of which no one has accused you. I begged you to take a break. You refused to. So scared of what your enemies will do to you. You're the only enemy you ever seem to lose to. You know why Jefferson can do what he wants? He doesn't dignify schoolyard taunts with the response! So yeah! Congratulations! You have redefined your legacy! Congratulations!" She yelled at me.
" It was an act of political sacrifice!" I yelled back.
" Sacrifice? I languished in a loveless marriage in London. I lived only to read your letters. I look at you and think ' God what have we done with our lives and what did it get us?' But that doesn't wipe the tears or the years away. I'm back in the city and I'm here to stay. You know what I'm here to do." She said and I took her hand. She smirked.
" Angelica..." I said and she ripped her hand away.
" I'm not here for you. I KNOW MY SISTER LIKE I KNOW MY OWN MIND!!! YOU WILL NEVER FIND ANYONE AS TRUSTING OR AS KIND!!! And a million years ago she said to me ' This ones mine'. So I stood by. Do you know why?! I LOVE MY SISTER MORE THAN ANYTHING IN THIS LIFE!!! I WILL CHOOSE HER HAPPINESS OVER MINE EVERY TIME!!! ELIZA!!! IS THE BEST THING IN OUR LIVES!!! SO NEVER LOSE SIGHT OF THE FACT THAT YOU'VE BEEN BLESSED WITH THE BEST WIFE!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!!! EVERY SACRIFICE YOU MAKE IS FOR MY SISTER GIVE HER THE BEST LIFE!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!" She finished yelling and slapped me across my face.
" His poor wife." The SMFDR said.
Everyone looked behind me at the balcony. I turned around and saw Eliza with my letters and a lantern.
" I saved every letter you wrote me. From the moment I read them, I knew you were mine. You said you were mine. I thought you were mine. Do you know what Angelica said when we saw your first letter arrive? She said ' Be careful with that one, love. He will do what it takes to survive.' You and your words flooded my senses. Your sentences left me defenseless. You built me palaces out of paragraphs. You built cathedrals. I'm re-reading the letters you wrote me. I'm searching and scanning for answers in every line. For some kind of sign of when you were mine. The world seemed to burn. Burn. You published the letters she wrote you. You told the whole world how you brought this girl into your bed. In clearing my name, you have ruined our lives." She said and Maria stood next to her.
" Do you know what Angelica said when she read what you'd done? She said ' You have married an Icarus. He has flown to close to the sun.' You and your words obsessed with your legacy. Your sentences border on senseless and you are paranoid in every paragraph. How they perceived you. I'm erasing myself from the narrative. Let future historians wonder how Eliza reacted when you broke her heart. You have torn it all apart. I'm watching it burn. Watching it burn. The world has no right to my heart! The world has no place in my bed! They don't get to know what I said! I'm burning the memories! Burning the letters that might have redeemed you! You forfeit all rights to my heart! You forfeit the place in my bed. You'll sleep in your own instead. With only the memories of when you were mine." She said and then lit a letter on fire.
" I hope that you burn." She said and then ran to her room. Angelica following along with Peggy, Maria, Sally Hemings, Laf, and Herc. John stepped close to me with tears on his face.
" John no." I whispered.

John's POV

" John no." Alexander said.
" YES! THAT WASN'T OKAY!!! YOU CANT JUST DO THAT TO ELIZA!!! YOU BROKE HER HEART!!! YOU CAN'T DO THAT TO MARIA!!! YOU RUINED HER LIFE, HAMILTON!!!" I screamed. He flinched at his last name.
" YOU CAN'T DO THAT TO PEGGY!!! YOU HURT HER GIRLFRIEND AND HER SISTER!!! YOU CAN'T DO THAT TO ANGELICA!!! YOU LED HER ON EVEN THOUGH YOU WERE ABOUT TO MARRY HER SISTER!!! YOU CAN'T DO THAT TO HERC!!! HE TRUSTED YOU!!! YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO LAF!!! HE'S PREGNANT MEANING THAT HE CAN'T DEAL WITH STRESS!!! AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST!!! YOU CAN'T DO THAT TO ME!!! I LOVED YOU!!! IT HURT ME EVERY TIME THAT YOU WERE WITH ELIZA!!! BUT WHAT DID I DO?!?!?! NOTHING!!! BECAUSE I SAW HOW HAPPY ELIZA WAS AND YOU JUST THREW IT AWAY!!! " I screamed and then scoffed.
" I can't believe I ever loved you." I said and ran to Eliza's room.
I heard Hamilton scream something but I didn't bother turning around to ask what it was.

Hamilton's POV

" I love you too!" I said but he was already running up the stairs.
I looked at the floor and started crying. I couldn't handle it. Then Phillip Schuyler walked up to me. He put a hand on my shoulder.
" You are not marrying my daughter." He said and then walked away.
I just stood there crying and helpless. Burr came up to me.
" Nice work Hamilton." He said and then walked away.
Jefferson smirked at me but I could see something in his eyes. I couldn't quite place it though. James Madison came up to me and patted my shoulder. He gave me an apologetic look and followed Thomas.
I guess I'll just walk home.
