Displeased by the sun's unforgiving radiance, Hoseok rubbed the remainder of sleep from his eyes and inattentively examined his surroundings. It took him a second to realize that he was still in his studio. And as panic arose in his chest, he scurried off the floor and out of the studio, sprinting his way home. He was certain that Jimin would be furious.
Subsequently, he arrived at his and Jimin's front porch, panting heavily. He unlocked the door, instantly smelling the scent of freshly made pancakes. He tried to sneak in silently but accidentally dropped his keys, ruining his own plan.
Then slowly looking up, his gaze met with Jimin's fierce one. Apparently, the noise caused Jimin to notice his arrival. He smiled sheepishly and gulped under Jimin's intense glare before picking up his keys.
"Mind explaining where you were? You know, regarding that you left yesterday with no trace and came back home today all sweaty and disgusting," demanded Jimin. He was relentlessly worried over his friend.
"I-I was at the studio all day, practicing an important dance, then I accidentally slept in while listening to music," lied Hoseok whilst nervously swallowing the lump in his throat as Jimin neared him, narrowing his eyes suspiciously.
"Fine. Just go take a shower already, you stink," Jimin exasperated before heading back to the kitchen.
Hoseok obliged, and advanced for the bathroom. He stepped into the shower as the water streamed down from the showerhead. It gradually washed all his sweat away. However, it overlooked his burdens and fears. He and Jimin never lied to each other about any matter before. Thus, the minute that lie left his mouth, his misery deepened. Not to mention, he still had to find a way to tell Jimin about his cancer.
"Why does it always have to be like this?" Hoseok wept, mournfully.
Meanwhile, Hoseok was in the shower, Jimin was outside, overhearing everything. He was just about to inform Hoseok that breakfast was ready, but halted when he heard the weeping. It grieved him to hear this phenomenon he claimed a friend be in so much pain. He even wondered whether bringing this matter up first would be a good idea.
"If Hoseok was grieving so much, then he mustn't keep it all for himself. He needs to share bits of it... for his own good," he thought, finally determined on his decision. He knocked on the bathroom door, calling Hoseok for breakfast.
The bathroom door unlocked and the knob twisted as Hoseok emerged out. He headed for the bedroom as Jimin followed him saying, "I heard you in the bathroom. Can we talk it out together like we always did? Or did things change?"
Hearing that, Hoseok sighed heavily, and turned around, wrapping his arms around Jimin's torso. At first, he was just slightly tearing up. But as Jimin reluctantly hugged him back, he started crying like no tomorrow. He couldn't hold back anymore. The guilt of lying to Jimin overwhelmed him. However, his mind was fully convinced that it was better not to worry Jimin. Therefore, he shook his head saying, "Not now, please," and Jimin nodded in understanding.
Moments later, Hoseok calmed down and broke the hug.
"Let's go eat, I'm hungry," he said. Jimin hummed and playfully pushed Hoseok out of the room. The gesture made Hoseok chuckle softly as he walked his way to the dining table. They sat in comfortable silence whilst eating the pancakes, enjoying each other's company.
Then suddenly, Hoseok's phone rang. He was hesitant at first, as he saw who it was, but answered nevertheless.
"Hello..."
