Gazing at the man that traumatized him as a child and scarred his young soul, Hoseok instantly pulled Jimin behind a corner to their right. They earned some weird looks, but Hoseok could care less. All that occupied his frantic mind was his father's presence.

"What-" he shushed Jimin, not allowing him to finish his question.

Hoseok looked around frantically before whispering, "My father's here."

Jimin was stunned. They never heard from or about their families after immigrating. It was a shock that Hoseok's was here.

Hoseok tried peeking to see if his father was still in the hallway. Then seeing that he wasn't, he grasped Jimin's hand and attempted an escape out of the hospital, as fast as possible.

"Hoseok!" up until that dreaded call, they were bolting. Nonetheless, the world is not always on our side. So when Hoseok heard the familiar voice of his malicious father, his feet immediately halted and froze midway through their breakout.

Slowly turning around, Hoseok whimpered quietly as his father turned their way. Jimin recognized Hoseok's fearful whimper and laced their fingers together in reassurance.

"What are you doing here?" inquired the man.

"I could ask the same," Hoseok scoffed coldly out of what is now pure anger.

His father sighed before saying, "I'm here because your mother's diagnosed with cancer."

Hoseok, however, remained silent and unfazed as he heard that.

"Why don't you see her yourself?" his father then asked.

Hearing that, Jimin nudged hoseok, ushering him to go.

So following his father cautiously, Hoseok entered a room, and his gaze immediately landed on his mother. She was lying on a hospital bed with several tubes connected to her, looking pale and thin.

Then as she saw him, her troubled face softened, and she attempted a smile but failed, so she tried to speak instead.

"My s-son, what are you doing here?" she said tenderly. Hoseok scoffed at the tone of her voice, and she frowned.

"You're right for hating me. I was never really the best of mothers, but I'm sorry, son. I learned my lesson," she spoke gently, "The day you left, I felt a pang in my heart. It was like someone slapped me in the face. I then realized how much of a terrible mother I was. I always thought that I was raising you correctly, but I was wrong. Again, Son, I'm sorry."

Hoseok remained completely silent with furrowed eyebrows as he listened to her the entire time, and Mrs. Jung thought that was a sign of resentment. Thereupon, a single tear rolled down her cheek in despair.

Yet what Hoseok did next made a stream of tears cascade down her cheeks. He stood up, pecked her forehead, then her hand.

His father stared at him with wide eyes, but he ignored him and left the room.

Outside of the room, Hoseok found Jimin waiting for him patiently. He grabbed his hand and took him to the hospital's cafeteria muttering, "I'm still hungry," on the way, earning a soft chuckle from Jimin.

"I saw what you did. It was really heartwarming, I'm proud of you," Jimin said as they sat on one of the tables.

"It really is hard to believe that she's the same women who raised me," Hoseok explained quietly and Jimin nodded.

"Hoseok!" his father dashed towards them, cutting their conversation, and panting as he reached their table.

"Hoseok, hurry! It's your mother..." and with that Hoseok hustled hectically towards her room. He's never worried so much about his mother before, but he couldn't let her go now that she spoke to him like a son and apologized to him.

However, it seemed that those were her last words because when he arrived, it was already too late. She was lying there with closed eyes and a peaceful expression. A state totally unlike the one he first saw her in.

He trudged closer to her frame and gazed at her feminine features that somehow looked so much more elegant now. He extended his hand and caressed her cheek before grasping the white cover, the nurses placed on her, and pulling it over her head.

"Goodbye, Mom," he whispered tenderly as his eyes glimmered with watery tears.
