I walk up back to the second floor back to homeroom and knock on the locked door waiting for someone to open it.
I gon and move my hair out of the way as one of my classmates opens the door. I head to my seat and sit and patiently watching the people going up and presenting. "Rebecca, you're up." I bend over from my seat and pick up the poster board from the floor and take off the rubber band. I walk towards the front and stand in front of the class.
"The war we-" I clear my throat. "Were assigned was the Revolutionary War. The war that got the thirteen colonies it's freedom from Britain." I point to a part of our poster. "In April 1775, British soldiers, and the colonists' militia exchanged gunfire at Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts." I continue reading. "Attempts by the British government raise revenue by taxing the colonies notably the Stamp Act of 1765, the Townshend Tariffs of 1767 and the Tera Act of 1773 met with heated protest among many colonists, who resented their lack of representation in Parliament and demanded the same rights as other British subjects. Colonial resistance led to violence in 1770, when British soldiers opened fire on a mob of colonists, killing five men in what was known as the Boston Massacre."
I finally finished presenting my poster and put it in the back of the room and sat back down at my table. Finally, about 30 minutes later, everyone is down presenting. "All right class, we are left with 10 minutes of class left, Miss Walker? Do you mind if we talk for a minute after class? If you need a pass for the second period I will be glad to give you one." I nod. "No, I wouldn't mind, I guess."
I sit there and twiddle with my fingers as I flip through my planner, looking at the activities I have to do after school.
A few minutes later right before the bell is about to ring, Tyler comes through the door. "I'm so, so sorry, Mr. Perkinson I missed our presentation, we can present tomorrow-" "It's fine, Mr. Joseph, Rebecca already did." He looks back towards me and I'm trying to avoid eye contact as much as possible. I can tell from out of the corner of my eye he's staring at me. I sigh and continue scrolling on my laptop as I hear footsteps approaching. "Look, Becca, we need to talk-" "Yeah you're damn right we need to talk! I was starting to trust you again and then you go and.." I scrunch my nails into the skin of the palms of my hands under the table. "Go and what, Bec? Beat up Zach for the fun of it? I don't fight for any sort of fun or random reason Bec." I wipe my face. "Then why?" He sighs. "You want to know so bad? Meet up with me after school, if you trust me. Diner. It's a long story." I roll my eyes and the bell rings.
I walk up to Mr. Perkinson. "About your project, Rebecca I wanted to ask you a few things." I nod. "Did you do the whole thing by yourself? Or did Tyler commit to the project as well?" "Yes, Tyler committed. He went to football while I went out to but the supplies needed and we met up at a restaurant to work on it." He nods. "And Miss Walker, I just wanted to ask you, for an extra credit opportunity, would you like to the rest of the wars as well? I loved your project! It was neat, organized, and had the perfect amount of information. So, I was thinking if you can make me the other wars on the same poster board, I could hang them up around my room?" I hesitate. My grade in here would boost up very much. "But I can only give you the credit if you work with Tyler. He will get credit as well. I admire the way you two work. It's neat, you don't procrastinate. Plus, I think it could keep Mr. Joseph out of trouble." I shake my head. "I guess I can do that,"
He gives me a pass and I walk to the second period, Calculus." The late bell rings and I run-up to the third floor and finally make it to my class. I give Mrs. Kipler my pass and take my seat. I yawn and pull out my textbook and laptop out of my backpack and pull up the classwork from yesterday that I finished thankfully. I open my textbook to the written page number on the board and wait for further direction. I yawn again and doze off.
"Miss Walker!" I raise my eyebrows and wake up. "Yes ma'am?" she sighs. "You weren't sleeping, were you? If you were I'm going to have to make a phone call home, that would be the third time!" I shake my head no. "Please don't call my dad." The class starts laughing. "Why, you got daddy problems?" Someone says from the back of the room with laughs. "Hey, leave her alone!" a boy says from a few seats behind me. I look behind me to see a boy with curly hair with bright, greenish-blue eyes wearing a black shirt. I smile and mouth 'thank you' and turn around. Even though there are still some kids laughing in the back I just try and remain calm and pay attention. I don't need any administration calling my dad and my dad saying I don't live there anymore.
*Later*
It's finally the end of the day and I take the stuff out of my locker. I put all of my stuff into my backpack, close it and head out of the locker room. As I'm walking through the halls of my school, I'm getting glares and stares from people in my year, sophomores, and juniors. I sigh and run out of the school as quickly as possible and head to the diner. I finally reach the diner and walk inside.
I look around for Tyler and I don't see him anywhere. I sit down at a booth and wait for Tyler patiently. The milkshake I ordered comes out to me and I thank the waiter. "Are you ready to take your order yet?" I nod my head no. "I'm waiting for someone." The waiter smiles and walks away. I take a sip of my milkshake and put my head down and wait for Tyler to show up.
About an hour later, I find myself waking up at the booth. I rub my eyes and look up in front of me to see a boy. "Tyler?" My vision suddenly comes clear and it's the boy from the second period. "Oh! Sorry," He laughs. "It's fine. Got stood up?" I laugh. "Oh, no. I just needed to talk to an um acquaintance." He laughs again. "So, you got stood up by this acquaintance?" I sigh. "Well, he's the one who said he wanted to talk to me." I roll my eyes. "Oh, and how long have you been sitting here?" I ask. He checks his phone. "About 30 minutes. I paid for your milkshake. Oh and I'm Harry by the way." I smile. "Rebecca." He chuckles. "What?" "I already knew who you were. I don't sleep in calculus your name is always getting called out." I giggle. "Very funny." He smiles. "Can I ask why Tyler Joesph needed to talk to you? Thought you guys had broken up last year?" I frown at the thought of the topic. "Yeah, we did. We're in history and we're unfortunately partners and we worked together for a project. I don't know if you heard but he got into a fight this morning with one of my best friends Zach. Tyler wanted to explain to me what happened but he said it was too much so he said to meet up here. God, why did I even come?"
Harry's smile fades from his face. "I'm sorry that you've been waiting here all this time. He's a jerk anyway I wouldn't stress over it too much." Harry states fixing his hair. I slightly smile. "Thanks for that. I really needed that."
The bell rings letting us know that someone came in the door. I turn around to see a bunch of guys from the football team with some of their girlfriends. "Shit," I say turning back around toward Harry. "What's the matter?" Harry says then looks up. "Oh. Do you want to leave?" I shake my head. "They're coming over." Harry signals. I put the menu up to my face to where they can't see me. "Styles who's this? I thought you were gay?" One of Tyler's friends say. "Uh nope. Not gay. Just eating with a friend of mine." I gulp, hoping they'll go away. "Why is she hiding? Who is it?" Amy says snatching the menu from me. "So she did come and wait," Amy says smirking. "Whore," Amy says slapping me. I get up from the booth.
"Harry I've gotta go."
