"I really don’t like you going in there alone." Nick stated as he sat in front of Rodney’s house with Demi in the passenger seat of his Mustang.

"Nick, we watched him walk out and drive away. No one else lives here. It’s safe in there." Demi let out a small laugh at her boyfriend’s nervousness, but she’d be lying if she said she wasn’t anxious too.

"I know, but still." Nick tilted his to the side and gave Demi puppy dog eyes.

Demi, laughing, gave Nick a kiss. “Besides, you’re the get-away car. You gotta stay here so that I can run out as fast as I can and we can act like Bonnie and Clyde or something.” She teased.

Nick laughed with her and gave her another kiss. “Alright, but if I see or hear anything I’m calling the cops.”

"I know, I know. I’ll be in and out in twenty minutes." Demi opened the door and walked into the house.

She was gone exactly twelve minutes when Nick noticed a familiar car pull up. He slid down in his seat, just enough so that he could still see over his dash, and watched Rodney get out of the driver’s seat and head toward the house. Nick quickly pulled out his cell phone and dialed 911, giving the speech he had been practicing for the past few hours.

By the time Nick’s phone call was done, Rodney had already entered the house. Not knowing what the man would do, Nick jumped out of his car and raced into the house. The door was locked, so Nick started running around the house looking for anyway to get inside.

The quiet laughter sent chills down Demi’s spine. She didn’t have to turn around to know that it was Rodney.

"Where do you think you’re going?" He asked in a low tone.

Demi took a deep breath and stood up straight. She replayed Nick’s pep talk from earlier, about how she was better than this life she had given herself, about how she deserved to begin again and leave all of this behind. Thinking back on this gave her the strength she needed as she turned to face Rodney.

This had been the man who had taken her in when she was in the lowest part of her life, but now she realized he had just taken advantage of her. Someone she had looked up to as a father figure since hers wasn’t the best, but now she saw that Rodney wasn’t a father to her either. The only one she seemed to able to rely was one she’d only known for about a week now: God. Nick had mentioned something about how He was our ‘Heavenly Father’ and Demi liked that because He seemed like a reliable guy unlike these other two in her life.

"I’m starting over." Demi stated, looking Rodney square in the eyes. "I didn’t need to put in my two weeks’ notice, did I?" Demi sarcastically asked.

Another laugh escaped Rodney’s lips. “You’re just a snarky little bitch lately, aren’t you?” He took a few steps closer to her but Demi didn’t back down. “You’re not leaving my sight ever again.”

Demi shook her head. “You can’t stop me. I’m leaving and never coming back.”

Rodney must have taken that as a challenge because his eyes lit up and he took a few more steps towards her.

Demi was having a rough time keeping her confidence up. Had Nick seen Rodney pull back up? Did Rodney hurt Nick some how? All of these questions piled into her brain as Rodney moved closer and closer to her. Demi kept backing away from him until the back of her knees hit the bed which caused her to stumble and she fell onto the bed.

Rodney gave a pleased smile and then started to crawl over her.

Demi’s breathing began to quicken as she watched Rodney. He had this look on his face that made her feel helpless. He looked like a hungry lion stalking his pray. Tears began to fall down her cheeks and she accepted the fact that Rodney was going to have her when, out of nowhere, Demi watched Nick jump on top of Rodney’s back and wrap his arms around the older man’s neck.
