New Earth- Chapter 40

"I just mean, you haven't really been the same since that day you, you know..." Jesus shrugged. "How?" I glanced at him. "Well, you think a lot more than you did before. You spend lots of time on your shifts walking around, sining softly, and staring out windows, thinking." He explained. "I don't know, I sometimes just need something to do, or some time alone. I have lots of things on my mind." I said as I again, turned my head to the window. "Hey, why don't we just take a walk or something in the backyard." Jesus said as he stood up and looked at me. "Okay." I agreed as I got up. We walked outside to the backyard and headed towards the swingset. As we sat down we slowly swung, not going too fast or too high. "Tell me, what happened that night. What made you snap like that?" Jesus asked. "I don't know, I just lost it I guess." i looked down at my feet that were dangling. "You sure?" He asked. "Yah." I assured him. "Hey, I bet I can go higher than you." He bragged as he started swinging his legs. "Oh no you wont." I answered as I started swinging my legs faster. We laughed and I tried to go higher and when I got higher than him, I stuck my tongue out at him. "Haha, who's higher now?" I bragged. "Not you!" He said as he swung high up with a forceful kick. "Whatever." I rolled my eyes. As we laughed more, we calmed down a little, and started to slow our pace. As Jesus got slow enough he jumped off and stood waiting for me. I trued to slow down. "Hey, you gunna jump off, or are you a chicken?" He nagged me. "I am not a chicken." I said as I jumped off and nearly slipped. "Haha, easy there." He chuckled. We made our way back inside to see that Serenity and Jack were gone. "Hello?" I called out. "Jack? Serenity?" Jesus called. All of a sudden a head pops out from behind a wall, "Oh, hey there. We're making breakfast. How does eggs and bacon sound?" Serenity asked softly. "Sounds great", me and Jesus said.

When we finished eating we sat down again to digest. "So, anything going on today captain?" Jack asked as he looked up and met my eyes. "Umm, not that I know of." I scratched my neck and stretched. It was silent for a moment. "Should we check our stock on weapons and ammo?" Jesus suggested. "Ya, sure." I agreed and we all got up and headed to the supply closet. As we made our way, we opened the door and began inspecting. "Shh!"I said as I held up my hand. The sound of an engine in the distance made my heart sink. "Everybody grab something right now, Serenity your going to have to use your skills again okay." I said as I gave her an assault rifle. She grabbed a pistol with a silencer and tested the aim. I slowly moved out and motioned the others with hands signals when to go and stop and where to move. Two of us covered the front and the others covered the back. We were prepared for anything to happen as the engine came closer, passing through the gate after putting in a passcode. When the engine stopped a car door slammed shut, keys were unlocking a door and a man came through the door with a young girl. "Stop!" He dropped his keys and grabbed the girl and pushed her behind him.
