Jibraeel (AS) came to Adam (AS). He put wheat in his hands and said, "This is your food, O Adam. This is what took you out of Jannah."
Adam (AS) was very happy. He said, "Can I eat it now?"
Jibraeel (AS) said, "No. Sow it into the ground."
Adam (AS) sowed it and Allah Ta'aala made the seeds grow into wheat. Adam (AS) was happy and said to Jibraeel (AS), "Can I eat it now?"
He said, "No, harvest it first."
Adam (AS) asked "How do I harvest it?"
Jibraeel (AS) taught him how to harvest the wheat. Adam (AS) started to harvest the wheat seeds. His hunger was close to killing him. He had no other way but to do as Jibraeel (AS) commanded him. Then there was the matter of Hawwa. He saw how she was crying because of the difficulty of hunger. He worked more and more. When he finished the harvest, he praised Allah and said to Jibraeel (AS), "Can Hawa and I eat now?"
Jibraeel (AS) said, "No, first you must rub the seeds."
