Chapter 10

Cassie’s POV

*Flashback*

“You did what?!” I yelled at Peter, my mind ablaze after the shock left my system.

“Look I’m sorry, alright? But I’m doing for your own good.” Peter told me, trying to calm me down, the smile he wore only moments before, gone.

“You send an application to OsCorp- in my name- without telling me!? How is that for my own good! Maybe I don’t want the job!”

Peter’s patience snapped, “I’m trying to look out for you! That’s what friends do, Cassie! Look out for each other!”

“That doesn’t mean you make decisions for me! I should be the one to put an application in for the job, not you! It’s not your job to control my life!”

“OsCorp would be a perfect job for you!”

“That doesn’t matter Peter, what matters is that it should have been my choice to apply! Why would you do that?!”

“Because I knew they would like you!” Peter yelled at me, his voice desperate for me to see his point of view. “Cassie, you would be good for them! You know that! They accepted you for Heaven’s sake! They said they wanted to meet you for a face to face interview to see if you’re qualified for the job! That’s good isn’t it? Isn’t it?”

“Of course that’s good.” I admitted, but my voice raised once again. “You don’t understand though, I didn’t want to apply!”

“I am so sick of this Cassie.” Peter threw his hands up in frustrating. “I am so sick of you trying to throw away your future. I miss Harry too, Cassie, but I know that Harry would want what’s best for you- for both of us- and this is what’s best for you.”

My face was still flushed from anger as I opened my mouth to once again tell him that he shouldn’t have done that but he cut me off with a glare and a raise of his hand.

“Save it.” He told me, his voice hard. “I’m sick of you doing this. You know it would be good for you, you just won’t admit it. Tell me, to my face that Harry wouldn’t want you to do this.

I slid my eyes shut knowing that Harry would want me to do it, but I- I just couldn’t. “I’m not going, Peter.” I whispered quietly, trying not to cry. “I’m not going to the interview.”

Peter shook his head, a small unamused laugh coming from him. “I can’t believe this.” His voice suddenly rose. “I can’t believe you’re throwing your future away! If you won’t go for me, or yourself. Go for Harry, you know what he would want. It’s in a week exactly at seven thirty sharp, pm, if you decide to listen.”

With that he stormed to his door next to mine and slammed it shut.

Once he had left, I stood in shock for a moment. Peter wasn’t one to get really frustrated. Before this moment, we hadn’t ever fought with each other.
