For Us By Us

Bey

I woke up in an unfamiliar place, confused about what happened last night. I immediately checked my phone and had a couple of missed calls and texts from my family. I only told my sister where I was because someone had to know about my whereabouts at least.

I don't need anyone worrying about me or jumping to conclusions. I sat up in the bed and rubbed my temples. I looked around for Nicki and she was no where to be found. I texted her phone only to find out that she had left it in the room.

I laid back down and started to drifted off to sleep again until I heard the bedroom door slowly open.

"Beyoncé?" Nicki whispered.

"Hm?" I responded and then turned over to face her direction.

"Hey, good morning. How'd you sleep?"

"I had the best sleep I've ever had in a while. Your bed is so comfortable."

"That's good. My mom didn't mind you staying the night. I told her your situation. She understands."

I nodded and got up to make my way to the bathroom. I hate to leave Nicki wondering about what actually happened, I know she is dying to know but if I tell her then it won't make sense and she'll think I'm crazy.

When I got out of the bathroom Nicki was laying down on her stomach in the bed on her phone. I just stared at her in the doorway, I am too lucky to have her. I think this is what it feels like to actually like someone. I've never felt this way about someone and these feelings scared me, but they also made me feel good.

I was content with feeling this way. I'll be the first to admit that love frightens me mainly because I don't know how to give or receive it.

Nicki snapped me out of my thoughts when she spoke, "why you looking at me like that?"

"I can't look at you?" I asked.

"I'm from New York, we don't stare over there. We co-exist. Ever since I moved here I've noticed that people are just mean as hell in New York."

"Y'all don't speak to each other?"

"Hell no. We scream "backdoor" for each other and hold doors but that's as friendly as it gets. All people in the south wanna do is stare and tell you to have a great day."

I laughed because she was so serious, "Why are you mad because people tell you to have a nice day?"

"I'm not mad, it's just different. I also naturally have a resting bitch face and people like to tell me about it. Maybe if you weren't staring at me you wouldn't have noticed," she shrugged.

"You are too much for me," I said as I joined her in the bed.

As soon as I laid down my phone started ringing.

"You gonna answer?" Nicki asked.

"If it isn't you then it isn't important."

Nicki rolled her eyes and got up and checked my phone for me.

"Babe it's your mom," she stood with the phone in her hands.

"So?"

"Aren't you going to tell her where you are?"

"She knows."

"Beyoncé."

"Onika."

"You are so stubborn, answer her or I will," Nicki said and I knew she was as serious as ever. By the time she said that my phone stopped ringing.
