Chapter 39

Next Day

(skip straight to the game)

As soon as the last class ended Austin and Alex headed straight to the gym. They were the first ones there, not even the coach was there. Then somebody came in. It was the person Austin despised.

"Hey. Y'all must be the new guys. I'm Jerome. I've heard you're pretty good, just don't get in my way today. My girl is coming to watch," Jerome, the new guy, told them.

Obviously he must've never seen us around Camila, Austin thought to himself.

"Your girl?" Alex asked.

"Yeah, well... I mean... She's not my girl yet, but she will be. I'm sure of it. She's so beautiful and talented," Jerome swooned.

"What's her name?" Alex asked pretending he didn't know.

"Well... Actually I think you know her, I've seen her sitting with you guys. Her name's Leilani," Jerome said shocking everybody.

Austin and Alex stood in shock.

"Wait. Leilani? I thought you were talking about Camila?" Austin asked flabbergasted.

"Cabello?" He said with a laugh, "That girl is crazy funny! But naw, I used to like her. But she made it clear she wasn't looking to date when I asked her out a couple of weeks ago. We're just friends. She comes to my games and we hang out. In fact she's the one that introduced me to Leilani."

"Thank goodness," Austin mumbled. "What was that?" Jerome asked.

"Oh nothing. Just going over plays," Austin lied.

"Cool. Well here comes everyone else," Jerome said as most of the team and the coach came in.

"Ok! Go get dressed and hurry back! Jefferson High is gonna be here in 15 and we still need to practice!" The coach yelled.

The boys ran into the locker room and changed. As they changed people started to come in. Austin and the rest of the team came out. Austin spotted Camila right away. He waved. At first, she wasn't even looking in his direction, but when she did she didn't wave back. She actually looked kind of upset. But then they heard a scream.

"HEY BABY!!! GOOD LUCK!!!" Ally yelled as she entered the gym with the others.

Austin and Alex laughed.

"HEY ALLY BABY!!!" Alex yelled back.

Meanwhile Normani decided to quietly go down and wish Thomas good luck without the whole gym staring at them.

The coach called everyone over. "Ok we have 10 minutes til game time. I want y'all to practice your free throws and 3-pointers," Coach said as he clapped to signal to disperse.

The boys scattered and started shooting. At the 5 minute mark they decided to practice some plays. It went by fast before it was time to play. For the first half they had managed to maintain offense and got lots of points. But in the beginning of the 2nd half they started losing, so they soon were on hard core defense mode. Thomas, Austin, and Alex we're grouped together in relatively the same zones for defense. They were intensely focused on the game even tho, in the background, Normani, Dinah, and Ally were shouting like a mad women for their boyfriends. And Lauren pretended not to know them. Thomas, Mo, and Alex couldn't help but smile, but he still stayed in his zone. In the end they won.

As they celebrated their win Normani and the rest came down from the bleachers.

"Masi you were amazing!!!" Normani screamed as she jumped into his arms. He kissed her cheek and laughed, "Thanks for coming babes."
